CRA UPDATE: Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit – One-Time Top-Up Coming June 5, 2026
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has confirmed an important affordability update for eligible Canadians.
Starting June 5, 2026, eligible individuals will receive a one-time GST/HST credit top-up payment as part of the transition to the new Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit.
💰 What is the payment?
A one-time top-up equal to 50% of your annual GST/HST credit
Designed to provide short-term relief before the new benefit system begins in July 2026
👨👩👧 How much could you receive?
Up to $950 for a single individual
Up to $1,890 for a family of four
📌 Who is eligible?
You may qualify if:
You filed your 2024 tax return
You were entitled to receive the GST/HST credit in January 2026
📅 Important dates
🟢 June 5, 2026 – One-time top-up payment issued
🟢 July 2026 – Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit replaces GST/HST credit with increased payments
