Sometimes CRA reviews a return after it's already been assessed and issues a Notice of
Reassessment if something changes, whether that's a correction, a new deduction, or additional information they've received.

It's not automatically bad news. But it's always worth reading closely and reaching out to your
accountant if anything looks off.

The right to vote wasn't always guaranteed. Many people throughout history fought hard for it and it's one of the most direct ways we get to shape our communities and province.

This October matters, wherever in BC you call home. Local elections are happening across the province on October 17, and BC's provincial election follows on October 24.

Whichever way you vote, we hope you do. Make sure you're registered, find your polling station and make a plan to get out there.

It depends on a few things: how much income the side business is generating, whether you're planning to grow it and what your personal tax situation already looks like. Incorporating can offer tax deferral and liability protection, but it also comes with added costs and administrative work that don't make sense for every early-stage side business.

There's no one-size-fits-all answer here. If it's crossed your mind, it's worth a conversation before you decide either way.

Scenario: You're about to buy new equipment for your business. Does it matter if you buy it this month or wait until January?

Good news: Thanks to Canada's Productivity Super-Deduction which was recently expanded by Prime Minister Carney's new "Productivity Mega Deduction”, many businesses can now immediately write off 100% of eligible equipment and technology purchases in the year they're put to use, instead of depreciating the cost over several years.

That said, timing can still matter for your specific situation. Your fiscal year-end and your income this year versus next still play a role in how much benefit you actually see. There's no universal right answer… it depends on your numbers.

Before you hit "buy" on a major purchase, a quick check-in with your accountant can make sure you're getting the full benefit.
