💖 Giving can happen all year long.

But there's something about this time of year that brings it to the top of our minds, and I love that.

Holiday drives. Community fundraisers. Friends rallying behind causes close to their hearts.

So many beautiful ways to show up for each other.

And when you plan for your giving, you get to say yes with your whole heart.

In our house, giving is part of our family spending every year. It has its own place in our plan, right alongside everything else.

It has evolved over time. But the intention has stayed the same ~ we decide ahead of time, so giving always feels like a joy, never a scramble.

A simple way to start:

✔️ Choose 1–3 causes that really matter to you
✔️ Decide your giving number for the year (time counts too)
✔️ Give on purpose, not on pressure

Bonus tip: if you're in Canada and want a tax receipt for this year, donations to registered charities need to be made by December 31.

🍂 This week's money moment: Decide your giving number for the rest of the year, and the one cause you want it to go to first.

Happy Thanksgiving week! 🦃

Sharing a few of my favourite moments from this weekend... and feeling so grateful.

We enjoyed a beautiful outdoor turkey lunch with our family ~ the campfire going, some great music, and lots of laughs.

Nothing fancy. Just the people I love, good food, and time well spent together.

My heart is full.

Thanksgiving always brings me back to one word: enough.

Enough food on the table. Enough people around it. Enough.

And yet, so much of the money world is built on "more." More income. More savings. More stuff. More, faster.

Wanting more isn't wrong. Growth is good.

But knowing your enough is what brings a sense of calm ~ about what you already have, while still building toward what's next.

It's not settling. It's clarity.

🍂 This week's money moment: Pick one area of your life ~ your home, your wardrobe, your savings goal, your weekends ~ and write down what "enough" looks like there.

Every one of us has a money story.

And it's built in layers.

Some layers are ours ~ the choices we've made, the lessons we've learned along the way.

Some we picked up from our past ~ the way money was talked about at the kitchen table. Or the way it wasn't talked about at all.

For me, one of the earliest layers was the second one.

Growing up, I didn't hear a lot about money. It always felt comfortable ~ but it was also a bit of an unknown.

My very first money memory is putting coins in my piggy bank and hiding it under a loose floorboard in my bedroom.

Like I was protecting it.

And I think that's what I learned early on ~ money was something to be protected.

Some of that story still serves me. I still love setting money aside and keeping it safe for what matters.

But the "unknown" part? That's the piece I've gently rewritten. Now I check in with my money every week, and I talk about it openly. No more hiding it under the floorboards.

Here's what I've noticed ~ a lot of the money habits we beat ourselves up over aren't really about willpower.

They're about a story we've been carrying for a long time.

The good news? Stories can be edited.

You don't have to throw out the whole thing. Just notice it. Keep the parts that help. Let go of the parts that don't.

🍂 This week's money moment: Finish this sentence: "Growing up, money was ____." Then ask yourself ~ is that still true for me today?

September is almost done. Which means Q4 starts in a few days.

I know, I know ~ it feels early to say the H-word (holidays). But if you wait until it doesn't feel early anymore, you've already missed the window to actually plan ahead.

For years, I've set aside money every month into what I call my Holiday Stress Buster. It's a dedicated pocket of money I draw on each year ~ gifts, our holiday dinners, host gifts, our holiday party... all the things.

We've evolved it over the years, but the consistency has stayed the same. And because of it, our holidays don't have money stress hovering around them anymore.

Here's the thing though ~ it's not just about avoiding stress. It's about being intentional with your money during the times of year when extra expenses tend to show up.

Which means you need to know your number. What do you choose to spend during this season, on all of it?

If you don't have that number yet, it's not too late. Spend a few minutes this week and pick one.

And if you haven't started setting anything aside, you can start now too. It doesn't have to be big. It just has to be consistent.

🍁 This week's money moment: Pick your holiday number. Then set up a separate no-fee bank account (think Wealthsimple or Tangerine) and start allocating a set amount each week, even $20, toward it. A little each week is a choice to be intentional ~ and I think you'll find it feels a little calmer too.

Fall officially arrives this week.

And there's something about this season that feels more like a fresh start than January ever does.

I noticed it this weekend at the golf course ~ the leaves are already starting to turn. I've been sitting out for my morning coffee too, and I'm needing a sweater now.

Maybe it's the routines resetting. The air actually changing.

Whatever it is, I want you to borrow that energy for one thing: a money habit you've been meaning to let go of.

Not a big dramatic overhaul. Just one thing.

Trees don't hold onto every leaf. They let go of what's not serving them anymore, and it makes room for what's next.

Your money can work the same way.

🍁 This week's money moment: Name one money habit you're ready to let go of this fall. Just naming it is the first step.

Happy first day of fall week!

September has a way of filling up fast.

New schedules. New activities. New everything, all at once.

Wherever you're at with it this month ~ already feeling settled, or still finding your footing ~ I want to talk about something that's easy to lose in the shuffle: time for yourself.

Not a spa day (though I do love a good spa day). Not a big block of hours you don't have.

Just 30 minutes, once a week, that belongs to you and your money.

I keep two separate check-ins. Sundays for our household money. Fridays for the business. Same day, same time, every week. I look at what came in, what went out, and what's coming up. That's it.

It's time I look forward to now. I put on some soft jazz music and keep it super calm. And it helps my money feel calm too!

🍁 This week's money moment: Pick a day and a time, 30 minutes, and put it in your calendar this week. What would you check in on?

September is here 🍂

And with it comes that end of summer feeling ~ one last exhale.

Before the routines snap back into place, I want to pause on something...not your numbers...not your budget. Your memories.

What actually made this summer good?

Was it the trip? The nights sitting around the firepit? The lazy Sunday with nowhere to be? The concert you almost didn't buy tickets for?

Chances are, the moments that mattered most weren't the most expensive ones. They were the ones you were fully present for.

That's the whole point of mindful money. Not spending less for the sake of it. Spending in a way that actually reflects what you value.

As fall routines return, carry that lesson with you.

🌼 This week's money moment: What's one thing from this summer you're grateful you spent money (or time) on? What does that tell you about what you value?

Here's to a mindful fall. 🍂

September is creeping closer, and with it comes a very specific kind of pressure.

The new-shoes-every-kid-has-them pressure. The picture-perfect vacation posts. That "everyone else has it together" feeling.

Comparison has a way of showing up loudest right when you're trying to be intentional.

Here's what I've learned: that pressure, when it shows up, is actually useful. It's a signal to pause and check in with yourself.

Is this spending decision coming from what I actually value? Or from what I think I'm supposed to be doing?

That question alone can shift everything.

The families who feel calm this fall aren't the ones who spent the most or the least.

They're the ones whose spending feels aligned ~ who know their own plan well enough that comparison doesn't shake it.

🌼 This week's money moment: Notice one moment this week where comparison creeps into a spending decision. Pause. Ask: is this coming from me, or from what I think I should be doing?

This weekend is going to be bittersweet.

We're doing our last back-to-school shopping trip with our youngest ~ she's heading into her final year of university.

Just over two decades of these trips with our three children, and it's hard to believe we're on the last one.

Over the years, a few things have carried forward to every single back-to-school shopping trip, no matter the grade:

✔️ They create their own list first ~ needs vs wants
✔️ We confirm what can still be used from last year before buying anything new (pencil case, backpack, the basics)
✔️ There's always a clear budget they have to stay within

The lists change. The budgets change. But the process has stayed the same. And I think that's the real lesson. The habit underneath them.

Bonus tip: back-to-school spending isn't a surprise in our house. It's built into our annual family money planning every single year. It has become part of what we call our annual money jam, so when the time comes, we have funds set aside and can focus on the joy around the experience.

🌼 This week's money moment: Involve your kids in the process. Have them make their own list of what they need, and talk about the budget together so everyone's clear before you hit the stores.
