Ben McVey came to CrossPoint Financial with a background most people would not expect in wealth management. Before joining the team, Ben worked as a Financial Analyst for the Department of National Defence Canada. That experience built a level of analytical rigour and institutional discipline that he brings to every aspect of his work here. As a Manager of Operations and Portfolio Analyst, Ben keeps the engine running. He is currently pursuing his CFA designation and has a deep interest in tax strategy and planning, which means clients benefit from someone who is always thinking a step ahead. Away from the office, Ben's roots are in rural Northern Ontario, where hunting and fishing are not hobbies so much as a way of life. Recently, five members of the CrossPoint Financial team spent the morning volunteering at Britannia Woods Community Services, helping with their Food Bank services.

Working alongside their regular volunteers, we started by moving food from the basement freezers and fridges to the main floor. Once the deliveries arrived from the Ottawa Food Bank and Costco, we got busy unloading and organizing everything from fresh produce, milk and eggs to bread, meat, canned goods and other essentials.

We also helped portion out carrots, onions, coffee, tea, sugar and flour in preparation for the following week's food pickups.

We were on the move from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m., and by the time we finished, we felt like we'd really made a difference.

It was a rewarding morning and an important reminder that many people in our own community are struggling to make ends meet. We're grateful to have had the opportunity to lend a hand.

It is uncomfortable. It forces you to think about things we all prefer to put off. But in 25 years of working with Ottawa families, we have seen what happens when that conversation is had early, and what happens when it is not. The families who plan? They grieve. But they do not scramble. Legacy planning is not about what you leave behind. It is about what you protect while you are here. It is one of the most important conversations we have. Dan Schultz started at CrossPoint Financial as a co-op student in 2021. He returned full-time in 2024, because once you experience what this kind of work can do for people, it is hard to walk away. A Carleton Finance graduate, Dan brings experience across operations, investment research, and client-facing advisory work. He understands how all the pieces fit together, not just his corner of it. What sets Dan apart is a genuine belief that clients should understand their own financial plan, not just trust it. He builds that understanding into every conversation, so the people he works with feel the confidence that comes from actually knowing what is happening with their money. Off the court, or the golf course, or wherever the latest competition takes him, he is probably already thinking about the next one. We love having that energy on the team.
