CarbiCrete is a carbon removal technology company whose patented technology enables the production of cement-free, decarbonized concrete.

CarbiCrete's fully carbon-negative process replaces cement with steel slag, an industrial by-product, avoiding the emissions that are associated with cement production, while also trapping CO2 inside the concrete permanently. CarbiCrete is licensing its technology to precast concrete makers. Products made using our technology are less expensive, more durable and more environmental than their cemen

t-based counterparts…all while ridding the environment of harmful emissions. For every tonne of concrete produced using our process, 150kg of CO2 are abated/removed. Our mission: 1 GT of carbon-negative concrete per year in a decade.

CarbiCrete is happy to announce we have been awarded $1 million by Innovation, Science, and Economic Development Canada (Canadian Innovation) and National Research Council Canada.

This funding will support the development and commercialization of new hardscape products as CarbiCrete completes phase 2 of the Construction Materials Challenge program set forth by Innovative Solutions Canada.

The growth of CarbiCrete's decarbonization will help to fulfill the program's mission to ensure the market readiness of Canadian technologies needed to decarbonize Canada’s building and industry beyond 2030 towards 2050.

Clean Energy Canada recently published a report entitled "Build Canada Clean", detailing how design changes and incorporation of materials can reduce construction without having a major impact on costs.

The report states that "Canadian manufacturers are already producing many of the lower-carbon alternatives required, such as produced in electric arc furnaces, that uses industrial byproducts to replace cement, and reclaimed asphalt. Supporting this kind of presents a unique opportunity for to build its market at a time when our key trade partners, like the EU, are actively seeking cleaner products."

The successful expansion of CarbiCrete's cement-free concrete in and would not have been possible without support from Canadian Innovation, specifically the Global Innovation Cluster, Advanced Manufacturing Cluster, and NGen Canada.

NGen Canada funding was critical for enabling the development of CarbiCrete's technology with early adopters Patio Drummond and Canal Block. This sent a key market signal to end-users that products are ready for use in projects.

is the most-used manmade material on the planet. Cement, concrete's binding agent, is made by heating limestone to over 1400°C, causing a calcination reaction that directly releases CO2 into the air. Although it usually makes up only 15% of a conventional concrete mix, cement is responsible for over 95% of concrete's associated emissions-- nearly 8% of all global emissions each year.

Climate Earth, an industry leader in quantifying concrete's data, recently published an article about the environmental impact of cement-based concrete: "Cement acts as the binding agent in concrete, but it is also responsible for the majority of associated with the material. As a result, when people talk about the of concrete, they are largely talking about the carbon footprint of —and how that impact propagates through every cubic meter produced."

CarbiCrete is revolutionizing the concrete industry by enabling concrete production with zero cement. Our innovative replaces 100% of cement in the concrete mix with steel slag, a byproduct of the industry. We then use carbon dioxide to cure the products, trapping in the concrete permanently.

In 2024, CarbiCrete worked with Climate Earth to develop our own Environmental Product Declaration ( ) showing that concrete made with our process has 20X lower emissions than cement-based concrete. That has a major impact on a project's carbon.
