Your corporation can own life insurance on you. Here's why that matters. πŸ›‘οΈ

1️⃣ Your corporation can own a life insurance policy on you, and the death benefit can flow to your estate largely tax-free through the Capital Dividend Account (CDA).
2️⃣ Done right, it's a powerful estate planning tool. Done without proper structuring, it can create unexpected tax consequences for your family.

Let's be real about who I work best with, because clarity saves everyone time.

You're incorporated. You're growing. And you are DONE guessing what your numbers actually mean.

If that's you β€” keep reading. If it's not you yet, that's okay too, bookmark this for later.
I work with business owners who want a real partner in their numbers, not just someone who files a return once a year and disappears.

Thinking of investing inside your corporation? Read this first. πŸ“ˆ

1️⃣ Investment income earned inside your corporation is taxed at a high rate upfront β€” specifically to discourage using a corporation as a personal investment shelter.
2️⃣ A portion of that tax (RDTOH) only comes back to your corporation when it actually pays you a taxable dividend β€” not just from holding or growing the investment.

Before BizBuddy, Faria was overwhelmed by the financial side of running her startup. Cash flow, terms she didn't know, numbers that felt like a foreign language.

Sound familiar?

That's exactly what BizBuddy is for β€” a program built for founders who need more than a once-a-year accountant. You need someone in your corner, translating the numbers as you go.

If you're building something and the financial side has you stressed, let's talk.

The vehicle "standby charge" trap. πŸš—

1️⃣ CRA applies a standby charge plus an operating expense benefit β€” often costlier than reimbursing yourself per kilometre.
2️⃣ Keep a mileage log either way β€” without one, CRA can deny your entire vehicle deduction or benefit calculation.

Here's what it actually looks like when we work together πŸ‘‡

No mystery. No radio silence for 11 months and then a scramble in April. You get monthly books, numbers you can actually read, and a CPA who tells you what's really going on β€” not just what fits in a spreadsheet.

This is bookkeeping + tax, done the way it should've been from day one.

Business use of home works a bit differently once you're incorporated. 🏠

1️⃣ There's no dedicated section on the T2 like there was on your sole-prop return β€” instead, it's a manual journal entry, tracked against your shareholder account as a tax-free reimbursement.
2️⃣ It's now a corporate expense, not a personal one β€” you can't claim it on your own return anymore, but it still benefits you by reducing the corporation's income.

"If my corporation pays for it, it's not really my income." 🚫
1️⃣ Personal use of a company car or asset, or a below-market loan from your corporation, both count as taxable income to you personally.
2️⃣ It doesn't matter if cash never touched your personal bank account β€” CRA still sees it as a benefit you received.

Salary vs. Dividends β€” it's not just a business choice. πŸ’°
1️⃣ Salary builds your CPP and RRSP room over time β€” dividends don't touch either one.
2️⃣ The right mix depends on your personal cash needs, retirement plans, and even your mortgage pre-approval.
This is exactly where being both your CPA and your financial advisor matters. Comment NUMBERS and I'll send you the link to book your Right Fit Call.

Myth: "All shares are basically the same." πŸ“Š
Reality: Common shares usually vote and may get dividends. Preferred shares don't usually vote, but get paid first if the company is profitable.
Here's why this matters more than people think: your share structure gets set up when you first incorporate β€” and it's not something you casually change later. If you ever want to bring on a business partner, take on an investor, or set up an estate/tax planning structure down the road, the share classes available in your corporation determine what's actually possible.
Set it up with only one basic share class, and expanding later can mean amending your articles, more legal fees, and more complexity than if it had been built in from the start. This is exactly the kind of thing worth getting right the first time, with proper guidance β€” not something to default on just to get incorporation done quickly.
