π CRA Reassessment vs. Audit β Whatβs the Difference?
Have you ever heard someone say, βI got audited by the CRAβ? They may actually have received a reassessment.
π An audit is a detailed review of a taxpayerβs records and supporting documents to make sure their tax obligations have been properly met.
π A reassessment happens when the CRA reviews a previously assessed tax return and determines that a change may be needed or requests additional information. For example, they may have questions about medical expenses or another tax claim.
Neither an audit nor a reassessment automatically means youβve done something wrong. However, either one can result in changes to your tax return, including possible taxes owing, interest, or penalties.
π If you receive a CRA reassessment or audit request, donβt ignore it. Review the notice carefully and respond within the required timeframe.
