If you claim any vehicle expenses on your taxes, you need to keep a travel log. Receipts for fuel, receipts for maintenance, or even bank statements demonstrating travel transactions support the travel log.

For a receipt to be considered official it must include:
1- Statement: "Official Receipt for Income Tax Purposes"
2- Charity Details: The charity's name, address, and CRA Business/Registration number
3- Serial Number: A unique, sequential receipt number
4- Transaction Details: The date the gift was received and the date the receipt was issued
5- Donor Details: The full name and address of the donor
6- Amounts: The total amount received, the description/value of any advantage received (e.g., a meal or event ticket), and the final eligible amount of the gift
7- Sign-off: The authorized signature of an individual appointed by the charity
