Budget 2026 announced an expansion of the provincial sales tax (PST) to certain professional services.

Subject to the Budget legislation receiving Royal Assent, PST will apply to the following services (at the rate of 7%) effective October 1, 2026:

While anyone can call themselves an “accountant” in BC, non-CPAs are not regulated. They don’t have the same consistent standards for education, experience, ethics, and ongoing professional development. Non-CPAs are also not required to carry insurance.
