The OAS clawback starts at $95,323 of income for 2026, even if your income is usually lower.
One big year is what catches most people. Take $20,000 out of your RRIF for a car on top of $93,000 of regular income, and roughly $2,650 of your OAS goes back, on top of regular tax.
Above the line, you repay 15 cents of OAS for every extra dollar, until it's fully gone at around $155,000 for ages 65 to 74. And $1,000 of eligible dividends counts as $1,380, so dividends push you toward the line faster.
A few things that help:
1. Fund big purchases from your TFSA. Withdrawals don't count as income.
2. Spread large sales or withdrawals across tax years.
3. Review pension income splitting every year.
