Fair doesn’t always mean equal.
That can be one of the hardest parts of family financial conversations.
→ One child may be more involved in the family business.
→ One sibling may take on more caregiving responsibility.
→ One adult child may need more financial support at a certain stage of life.
→ One person may want to keep the cottage, while another would rather sell.
On paper, equal can feel simple.
But in real life, equal does not always reflect responsibility, need, contribution, or long-term reality.
That is why these conversations matter before decisions are finalized.
Because “fair” is not just a number.
It is a conversation about values, expectations, relationships, and what you want your plan to protect.
Something to talk about at your next family meeting:
What does fair actually mean in your family?
