At JAM Financial, we are proud members of the Financial Advice Association Australia (FAAA), and we are happy to support this year's Value of Advice Index (VoA) survey. This explores the impact of financial advice.
The survey is conducted by independent researcher MyMavins, and all your responses will be kept anonymous. Your input will be combined with others to identify trends and insights that help us all understand the value of financial advice.

The positioning of the 2024 Federal Budget was (unsurprisingly) similar to last year—easing pressures today and investing in a better future. Despite better-than-expected economic outcomes, there is still a level of weariness, given persistent heightened economic uncertainty globally and locally. The key proposals broadly fall into the categories of easing cost-of-living pressures, building more homes, investing in a Future Made in Australia, and strengthening Medicare and the broader care economy.

Superannuation related proposals were (again) limited, and primarily confirmed proposals announced earlier.

This came across my desk yesterday and is a truly scary read. Over the course of the last few years successive governments, both Coalition and Labour have systematically set about making it harder and more expensive for advice to be given about insurance in Australia and here we see the results returning to roost.

The headline is scary enough but the most disturbing thing is the fact that three policies are being cancelled for every new one issued. This represents a massive reduction in the levels of financial protection that individuals, families and businesses have when faced with Devastating personal and medical challenges and will lead to millions and millions of dollars of damage and losses that do not need to happen.

A senior APRA executive has pointed to a 50% decline in new retail life policies over the past five years and the exit of 43% of advisers.
