While partisans inevitably will declare their leader is better for the stock market, there is no evidence of a pattern in returns. We can take an interest in elections as global citizens, but there are just too many moving parts to use these events as an investment guide—which is why sticking to your own plan is your better bet.

As much as we are drawn to tidy narratives, it is the economy that determines market performance far more than the occupant of the White House.
