Blocked retirement plan?
Here is how advice really works 👇

Not every situation is the same and neither is the strategy.

For someone starting early, with clear goals and strong cashflow, the path can be simple.

Structure things properly, invest consistently, and you are on track.

But when it is more complex, that is where real advice comes in.

When you have:
⏩️A business
⏩️Multiple properties
⏩️Tax considerations
⏩️Super decisions
⏩️A limited window to retire

That is not a “quick fix” conversation.

That is strategy.

Recently we sat down with a couple in their mid 40s.

On the surface, they were doing well:
✅Good income
✅Growing business
✅Assets building

But when we dug deeper, the plan did not match the outcome they wanted.

So we stepped it up:

✔ Clarified what retirement actually looks like for them
✔ Mapped cashflow, debt, and investment scenarios
✔ Stress tested multiple strategies
✔ Identified what actually moves the needle, and what is just noise

Industry super funds love telling us they are best performing.

📺 Big ads.
🏟️ Big stadiums.
🥇 Big awards they hand to each other.

So we stripped all of that away.
✅ No marketing labels.
✅ No league tables.
✅ No confusing investment names.

Just a simple, like for like comparison across balanced, growth, and high growth investment options to answer one basic question.

When you remove the noise, are industry super funds actually meeting the benchmarks they should, at a minimum, be achieving?

The results surprised a lot of people.
Not because they were terrible.
But because they were consistently below benchmark.

And perhaps more importantly, many so called balanced options are not balanced at all.

If you have superannuation, especially if you are within 10 to 15 years of retirement, this matters more than most people realise.

I’m Cooper Eyre, a 15-year-old in the Big Picture school program, where I get to explore subjects I’m genuinely interested in alongside mainstream studies.

❌ Politicians have taken away my right to use social media, so I thought I would jump on Matt's Linkedin.

✅ As part of Big Picture, we do work experience, and thanks to one of my teachers, I was fortunate enough to spend time at Newcastle Advisors.

From day one I came in curious, I wanted to know:
🙋‍♂️what skills make a great financial planner?
🙋‍♂️ What does owning a financial-planning business really look like day-to-day?
🙋‍♂️ What roles exist in the industry, and how do you find clients?

What I discovered was so much more than I expected.

🤝 I had the opportunity to sit in on client meetings, gaining real-world exposure to conversations, client interactions, and the importance of communication.

I saw first-hand how social skills, empathy and clarity matter when dealing with people.

🤖 I also learned how to use AI as a tool to increase efficiency, not just as a “school advantage,” but as a real asset in business.

On top of that, Matt gave me two books to read:
📕 Who Moved My Cheese and
📚 The 5 AM Club. Already,
the latter has urged me to challenge my own habits, forcing me to confront laziness and excuses, and motivating me to choose discipline over comfort.

I’d recommend it to anyone, especially young people.

Another highlight was being part of a joint-venture business meeting. Watching a full business plan get laid out on a whiteboard, seeing roles get assigned, and hearing discussions about goals, challenges and collaboration, it gave me a real insight into how businesses are built from the ground up.

I also gained practical skills in marketing, what makes an effective ad, how to leverage psychology in outreach, lessons I know will help me whether I start my own business or support others.

Even more exciting, on my very first day, Matt proposed we team up on a business venture, not just a small side project, but a full initiative aimed at helping small businesses automate operations, generate leads, and boost efficiency. Our goal is to build the engine behind their business so they can focus on what they do best.

My time at Newcastle Advisors has been nothing short of life-changing.

I’ve met some of the most driven, inspiring people...
people who helped me accelerate my understanding of business, finance and what I want from my future.

Matt, in particular, has been an amazing mentor.
