This afternoon, we gathered once again for another insightful CPA Australia City Taxation Discussion Group session, bringing together tax professionals to connect, learn, and stay ahead of important developments affecting our clients.

Today's presentation, “The Federal Budget’s CGT Changes – What They Mean,” was delivered by Arda Ahmed, Principal at Norton & Quay Tax Law. Arda provided a practical overview of the significant proposed CGT changes taking effect from 1 July 2027, including the removal of the 50% CGT discount, cost base indexation, the proposed 30% minimum tax on capital gains, transitional rules, and changes to the active asset reduction rules.

Drawing on his unique experience as both a tax adviser and former ATO decision-maker, Gavin shared valuable insights into the tax administration rules every adviser should understand, together with practical strategies for navigating ATO processes and advocating effectively for clients.
