Do you know what our central bank is for?
One of the most prominent players in the Australian economy is the Reserve Bank of Australia – or the RBA. The RBA is Australia’s Central Bank. This means that it is the banker for the Commonwealth Government and that it is responsible for management of Australia’s currency.

Struggling a little to get your mojo back?
Continuing on with the Covid theme, this week we discuss something that we are hearing anecdotally about life after Covid restrictions in general and, for the unlucky ones among us, lock downs in particular. Many people are simply struggling to get their mojo back.

Last week’s article about making good decisions in a pandemic gathered some happy feedback. Continuing on with the covid theme, this week we thought we would discuss another phenomenon that we are hearing anecdotally about life after Covid restrictions in general and, for many of our clients livin...

What would we do if we got this letter?
We love reading those ‘Dear Abbey’ type letters to the newspaper. Especially the financial ones. Here is a classic we read recently – and what we would do if this were our client.

If you are like us (you may well not be!), then you love to read those ‘Dear Abbey’ type letters to the newspaper. Not surprisingly, we especially love the letters that are seeking financial advice. Last weekend, the Channel Nine/Fairfax Press had a really interesting scenario, which read in par...

“When the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do?"

People need to adapt to new circumstances. It is how humans have always survived. This was brought home to us last week as we watched the women’s final of the Australian Open. As you might have seen, Naomi Osaka beat Jennifer Brady to claim her fourth grand slam title. Well played Naomi. But it is Brady’s story that we really liked.

“When the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do?” These words may or may not have been spoken by the eminent economist John Maynard ‘Lord’ Keynes. No one is really sure who said them. But regardless of their provenance, the sentiment is a really smart one. People need to adapt to ne...

Bushfires that affected all of us were followed by a pandemic that saw most of us confined to home for an extended period of the year. No one could have predicted anything like it. Earlier this month, Australia’s Reserve Bank dropped their target for interest rates to its lowest rate ever.
