A potential licensee recently said to me:
"I'm worried AI will take over accounting jobs."
Maybe.
Maybe not.
But I think that's the wrong question.
The better question is:
"How do I stay valuable?"
Because every industry changes.
The people who thrive are usually the ones who adapt first.
They learn new skills.
Use new technology.
Expand their services.
Stay relevant.
The goal isn't job security.
The goal is becoming so valuable that opportunities keep finding you.
That's a much stronger position to be in.

I spoke to a bookkeeper recently who had been running her practice for almost 8 years.
She had loyal clients.
Strong referrals.
Good revenue.
But she was exhausted.
Then she said something interesting:
"I don't want a bigger business. I want a better one."
That really resonated with me.
Many practitioners think growth means:
More clients.
More staff.
More complexity.
But sometimes growth means:
• better clients
• better pricing
• better systems
• better lifestyle
The most successful practices aren't always the biggest.
They're often the most focused.
What would make your business better, not bigger?

A bookkeeper asked me recently:
"If AI keeps getting better, where will the growth come from?"
My answer was simple.
Clients don't pay more because their reconciliations are faster.
They pay more when you help them make better decisions.
Questions like:
• How do I pay less tax legally?
• Can I improve cash flow?
• Is my business structured correctly?
That's where the opportunity is moving.
Bookkeeping remains important.
But the real growth is helping clients understand what the numbers mean and what actions they should take next.
The future belongs to practitioners who combine technology with advice.

One of our licensees recently increased her recurring revenue by almost 5 times.
Not by finding more clients.
Not by spending more on marketing.
Not by working longer hours.
She simply expanded her services.
For years, she focused on bookkeeping.
But her clients were constantly asking:
• How can I reduce tax?
• Should I change my structure?
• What should I do before year end?
The opportunity was already there.
She just wasn't charging for it.
The lesson?
Sometimes growth doesn't come from finding more clients.
It comes from becoming more valuable to the clients you already have.

AI.
Offshoring.
Geopolitical uncertainty.
Changing tax rules.
Some accountants see threats everywhere.
Others see opportunity.
The difference is rarely talent.
It's preparation.
The accountants who thrive over the next few years won't be the ones who ignore change.
They'll be the ones who learn how to use it.
AI can make you more productive.
Technology can help you serve clients better.
New challenges create demand for better advice.
Every major shift creates winners and losers.
I believe the next few years will create enormous opportunities for accountants who are willing to adapt.
Which side do you think will benefit most from the changes ahead?

Inflation is rising.
Everything costs more.
As a result, many people become extremely cautious with money.
But here's a question:
What's more expensive?
Investing in yourself?
Or standing still for the next five years?
Most people calculate the cost of action.
Very few calculate the cost of inaction.
The skills not developed.
The opportunities missed.
The income streams never created.
The most successful professionals I know never stop investing in themselves.
Not because they like spending money.
Because they understand that the best investment isn't always the one that grows your money.
Sometimes it's the one that grows your future.

One of our licensees was made redundant about 18 months after joining us.
When I called him, I expected stress.
Instead, he said:
"I was ready."
Not because he predicted it.
Because he spent the previous 18 months preparing.
Building a small client base.
Learning new skills.
Creating a second income stream.
So when the redundancy came, it wasn't a crisis.
It was a transition.
Most accountants spend years growing their salary.
Very few spend time building a Plan B.
In today's world, that might be the biggest risk of all.
The best time to build options is before you need them.

I spoke to a potential licensee recently who works for one of the major banks.
His team has already been restructured and he believes it's only a matter of time before his role is impacted.
What impressed me wasn't the situation.
It was his response.
Instead of waiting, he's preparing.
Learning AI.
Building new skills.
Exploring a second income stream.
Creating options.
Because the reality is this:
We can't control restructures.
We can't control AI.
We can't control offshoring.
But we can control how prepared we are.
The people who thrive during change are rarely the lucky ones.
They're usually the ones who prepared before everyone else.
The goal isn't job security.
The goal is staying relevant.
And people who stay relevant will always have options.
How are you preparing for the next few years?

A Financial Controller said something to me recently that perfectly summed up where many senior professionals are mentally.

“I don’t necessarily want to leave corporate.
I just don’t want corporate to be my only option.”

That’s a very different conversation from entrepreneurship.
And honestly, more experienced accountants and finance leaders are starting to think this way now.

Not because they suddenly dislike their jobs.
But because the market feels different.
The pace of change is faster.
Restructures happen quicker.
Long term certainty feels harder to rely on.

That’s why more professionals are quietly building another pathway while they still have:
• stable income
• credibility
• confidence
• time on their side

Because decisions made from preparation feel very different from decisions made from panic.

For those exploring what a structured second pathway could look like, I will share more details later.

A senior accountant told me recently:

“I’ve become very good at protecting the business.
I’m not sure I’ve become very good at protecting myself.”

That stayed with me.
Because many experienced finance professionals spend years managing risk for everyone else.

But very few stop and ask:
“What risks exist around my own career position?”

Especially now.

AI is changing workflows.
Offshore teams are expanding.
Businesses are expecting broader capability from smaller teams.

That’s why more experienced finance leaders are quietly building:
• advisory confidence
• direct industry relationships
• ownership capability
• another pathway before they urgently need it

Because once you’ve seen enough restructures, you stop confusing stability with certainty.
