If you’ve withdrawn money from your company for personal use and it wasn’t paid as a wage or dividend, it may be treated as a Division 7A loan.

From 1 July 2026, the ATO’s benchmark interest rate is set to increase from 8.37% to 8.77%. While the change may appear small, it can increase the minimum repayments required on larger shareholder loans.

To remain compliant, you generally need:
A complying loan agreement
Minimum yearly repayments
Interest charged at the applicable ATO benchmark rate

If the paperwork isn’t correct or the required repayment is missed, the outstanding amount could be treated as an unfranked dividend and taxed at your marginal rate.

A quick review now could help you avoid a much larger tax bill later. Speak with the CVG team to check that your shareholder loan is properly documented and up to date.

Own land, run cattle or operate a farm? That alone may not be enough to qualify for the primary production land tax exemption.

Revenue NSW considers whether primary production is the dominant use of the land and whether the activity operates as a genuine commercial business - not simply whether livestock or crops are present.

In this reel, we break down three common myths:
Having cattle in the paddock automatically qualifies you
Selling a small amount at the markets is enough
Your accountant will handle the exemption at tax time

Getting it wrong could result in the exemption being denied, reassessed retrospectively and land tax bills being backdated.

If you’re unsure whether your property would satisfy the test, it’s worth seeking advice before your next land tax assessment.

The noise around this 45-day SMSF deadline is real — but so is the confusion. 📋

On 25 June, the Treasury Laws Amendment Bill passed both houses of Parliament. But it is not yet law. It still needs Royal Assent — expected within days.

Once that happens, the 45-day clock starts. Based on current timing, the ban lands around mid-August 2026.

Here’s what you need to know:
✅ Contracts exchanged before commencement are protected — even if settlement is after
⚠️ But not every scenario is clear cut — loan approval, deposits and bare trust ex*****on all sit in grey areas
📌 If you are mid-process, get specific legal and financial advice now

An SMSF is not for everyone. Make sure any decisions you make in this space are backed by the right professional advice for your situation.

This is general information only — not personal financial advice.

What actually changed:
✅ Existing LRBA — untouched
✅ Commercial property borrowing in super — still allowed
✅ Buying residential with your own super cash — still allowed
❌ New borrowing to buy residential property — gone

Was this a good strategy for retirement?
Was this used by everyday Australians just trying to get ahead?
Is this the way to solve the housing crisis? I’ll leave that one with you.

🚨 The ATO just lost in the High Court this morning — and if you have a family trust, you need to hear this.

This case ruling will be an interesting one to follow!

But changes are coming from 2028 that will potentially reshape how trusts are taxed. Your structure needs a review. Regardless of today’s ruling.

The worst time to think about cash flow is June 29. 📅

EOFY isn't just a tax deadline - it's a planning opportunity. And most business owners miss it because they're reacting instead of preparing.

If you've been thinking about new equipment, software or any other business purchases, your timing matters more than you think.

Buying too late means scrambling. Buying smart means you're using cash you already planned for.

Here's what being ahead of EOFY actually looks like:

✔️ You know what's coming in and out for the next 13 weeks

✔️ You've identified purchases that make sense before June 30

✔️ You're not raiding the business account and hoping for the best

Cash flow isn't just about survival, it's about being in a position to make smart decisions when it counts.

If you want to get ahead of EOFY instead of scrambling through it, DM us or book a call via the link in bio 👆
