πŸ“’ Trustees – Don’t Forget Your 2026 Trustee Resolution!

As we approach 30 June 2026, it is important for all discretionary (family) trusts to ensure their Trustee Resolution Minutes are completed before the end of the financial year.

βœ… A Trustee Resolution determines how the trust’s income will be distributed to beneficiaries.

⚠️ If a valid resolution is not prepared by 30 June, the trust could face:
β€’ Higher tax rates
β€’ Unintended distributions
β€’ Compliance issues with the ATO
β€’ Potential trustee disputes

Every trust deed is different, so it is important to review your deed and ensure the resolution is prepared correctly and signed on time.

πŸ“… Don’t leave it until the last minute. Contact DMT Accounting if you require assistance with your 2026 Trustee Resolution Minutes.

πŸ“Š 2026 TAX PLANNING – HAVE YOU PREPARED BEFORE 30 JUNE? πŸ“Š

As we approach the end of the financial year, now is the ideal time to review your tax position and identify opportunities to legally minimise tax before 30 June 2026.

Some common tax planning strategies may include:

βœ… Reviewing business profits and expected tax liabilities
βœ… Maximising superannuation contributions
βœ… Reviewing asset purchases and depreciation opportunities
βœ… Writing off obsolete stock and bad debts
βœ… Reviewing trust distributions before 30 June
βœ… Ensuring motor vehicle logbooks are up to date
βœ… Reviewing Division 7A loan accounts
βœ… Considering capital gains tax implications before year-end

Every business and individual situation is different, which is why personalised tax planning can often result in significant tax savings and improved cash flow management.

πŸ’° Payday Super is Coming – Is Your Business Ready?

From 1 July 2026, super will need to be paid at the same time as wages, instead of quarterly.

What this means for your business:
βœ”οΈ More frequent super payments (weekly/fortnightly/monthly)
βœ”οΈ Tighter cash flow management required
βœ”οΈ Reduced risk of large quarterly super bills
βœ”οΈ Increased compliance and reporting obligations

⚠️ Important – Penalties for Late Super Payments

If super is not paid on time, businesses may be liable for the Superannuation Guarantee Charge (SGC), which includes:
❌ Super calculated on total wages (not just ordinary time earnings)
❌ Interest (currently 10%) from the start of the quarter
❌ Administration fees per employee, per quarter
❌ No tax deduction for late super payments

With Payday Super, the ATO will have greater visibility β€” meaning late or missed payments will be identified much faster.

What you should do now:
πŸ”Ή Review your payroll processes
πŸ”Ή Ensure your software (e.g. Xero) is set up correctly
πŸ”Ή Plan for the cash flow impact
πŸ”Ή Stay compliant ahead of time

At DMT Accounting, we are already helping clients prepare for these changes to ensure a smooth transition.
