ASIC is warning about unsolicited emails and letters offering to handle your business name renewals or company reviews. These can look like official invoices - but they’re often from third-party providers, not ASIC.

• You don’t have to use a third party - you can deal directly with ASIC
• Some notices create urgency or appear like bills when they aren’t
• Extra fees may be charged on top of ASIC’s actual costs

🚨 CGT Changes Are Coming - What You Need to Know

Big changes to Capital Gains Tax (CGT) were announced in the 2026 Federal Budget, with proposed rules set to kick in from 1 July 2027 (subject to legislation).

Here’s the quick snapshot:

• The 50% CGT discount is set to be replaced with an inflation-based (indexation) method
• A minimum 30% tax rate will apply to capital gains
• Changes will apply to property, shares, and other investments
• Existing assets are largely grandfathered, with new rules mainly applying to future gains
• Investment property needs to be valued to serve as the starting cost base for the new CGT changes.

💬 What does this mean?

Potentially higher tax outcomes for investors, and a shift in how people structure investments going forward.

⚠️ These are proposals only (not yet law), so there may still be changes before implementation.

💡 New $1,000 Work Expense Deduction - Coming Soon

From 1 July 2026, the ATO will introduce a $1,000 work‑related tax deduction to make tax time easier for millions of Australians.

✅ Claim up to $1,000 for work expenses without receipts
✅ Choose this or claim your actual expenses if they’re higher
✅ Designed to cut paperwork and save time
✅ Expected to put a little extra money back in workers’ pockets

⚠️ This is a deduction, not a $1,000 cash refund, and it won’t apply until you lodge your 2026-27 tax return in 2027.

From 1 June, study and training loan balances will be indexed at 2.8%, based on the lower of CPI or WPI. You can reduce your balance by making a voluntary repayment before indexation applies. To allow for processing time, repayments should be made by 26 May. BPAY or credit card are the fastest payment options.

💼 Update on Junior Pay Rates 📝

Information on recent Fair Work Commission changes.

• Junior pay rates will be removed for workers aged 18-20 in retail, fast food and pharmacy
• Around 500,000 young workers across Australia are expected to benefit
• Pay increases will be phased in over up to four years, starting from December 2026
• Junior rates will remain for workers under 18
• Workers aged 18-20 will generally need six months with an employer to receive the full adult wage
