Transport expenses can include car and motor vehicle costs, taxis and ride-share services, public transport fares, and flights. You may be able to claim travel completed while carrying out work duties, such as travelling between workplaces, visiting clients, attending meetings or training, delivering supplies, or travelling between multiple jobs.
However, trips between home and your regular workplace are generally considered private expenses and cannot be claimed. This applies even if you work overtime, are on call, travel long distances, perform minor work tasks on the way, or have limited public transport options. Working from home for convenience also does not make your normal commute deductible.
The intricacies of what can and cannot be claimed can be complicated. If at all unsure, please reach out to us and we will put you on the right path to maximising your Tax Return.
