This month marks 1 year in our Redland Bay office 🥳 and incredibly, our 17th end of year lunch together as colleagues 🤯 Safe to say the tradition is well and truly locked in.

Of course, being small business owners, there a very real chance we’ll be still working into next week…we have been busier than ever and loving it 😊

📣 Do You Need to Register Your Business for GST? Here’s a Quick Guide

If your business turnover is approaching $75,000 per year, it’s time to check whether you need to register for GST. Many small business owners leave this too late — which can lead to unexpected ATO bills and backdated GST obligations.

You must register for GST if:
✔ Your turnover hits $75,000 (or is likely to)
✔ You operate a rideshare or taxi service — no matter your turnover
✔ You want to voluntarily register to claim GST credits on your expenses

Why it matters:
⚠ If you are likely to exceed the $75k threshold, the ATO requires you to register within 21 days
⚠ GST can be backdated, meaning you may owe GST on past sales
✔ Registering early often makes things cleaner and avoids surprises

Tip: If you're not sure where your turnover is tracking, check your year-to-date sales in Xero/your accounting software or reach out to us — we can help you review it.

📣 Same Payday Super Is Coming — What Small Business Owners Need to Know

From 1 July 2026, employers will be required to pay superannuation at the same time as wages, rather than quarterly.

This change is designed to improve employee retirement outcomes and reduce unpaid super across the system.

What this means for your business:
✔ Super will need to be processed in each pay cycle
✔ Cleaner, more accurate payroll records
✔ Less risk of unexpected super bills at quarter-end
✔ Employees can see their super growing in real time
