We all know that high-quality close relationships and strong social connections lead to happier, healthier, mentally strong, and longer lives.

As you approach retirement, one of the key things you can do is work hard to actively replace workmates with playmates. Lean into your relationships with your family, friends and community, and replace screen time with people time.

Go on date nights; they should not end just because you're older
Host family game nights once a week, and if you don't have family nearby, you can do it virtually or invite your neighbours instead!
Join a local club; there are so many, you're bound to find one that aligns with your interests and values
Get together with your neighbours and create a community garden for everyone to enjoy

These social connections are far more valuable to happiness in retirement than a never-ending pot of money.

The dictionary definition for retirement is: depart, remove, or withdraw. From our experience with retirement planning, we don't know many clients who view retirement as a time to withdraw from society.

This Ted Talk by Dean Waggenpack invites you to challenge the traditional notions of retirement and re-imagine what life after work could be.

If you want help planning and funding a retirement full of purpose, passion, and endless possibilities, give us a call on 08 9445 2955.

Our latest blog post takes a deep dive into the world of retirement planning, and it's not your average read!

Pre-retirees are often fixated on income streams and wealth accumulation. But there's more to retirement planning than that.

Our new blog, "Rethinking Retirement: A New Perspective," looks at how places like Okinawa and Ikaria prioritise health, emotional well-being, and purpose in later life.

Retirement planning should help you strike a balance between financial security, staying healthy, and finding happiness.

We understand the nuances of retirement planning and recognise that it's not just about financial freedom; it's about living a fulfilling life.

Retirement is not a one-way street; it's a flexible journey where you can navigate your own path.

People retire for various reasons, such as relaxation, spending time with family, or pursuing personal passions. However, retirement doesn't mean you're locked in.

It is worth remembering that you do have the freedom and opportunity to return to work if you want or need to. Whether it's for financial stability, a sense of purpose, or simply the joy of staying engaged, the option to reenter the workforce is always there, making retirement a roundabout rather than a one-way street.

While the axiom "time in the share market is better than timing the share market" remains relevant, we must recognize that today's investment landscape is vastly different from the past. Historical trends should inform our decisions but not dictate them.

To navigate the complexities of the modern financial world, we should adopt a more adaptable and informed approach, leveraging the wisdom of the past while embracing the realities of the present and the uncertainties of the future.

Here’s a great graphic, courtesy of Solomon Hollett Lawyers, explaining what happens to your money if you die without a Will in Western Australia.

Effective estate planning covers a great deal more than just your will, and although financial planners are not qualified to give legal estate planning advice, wealth protection forms an integral part of our conversations with clients on planning for retirement.

We understand that discussing what happens when we're no longer around might be uncomfortable. However, delving into topics like guardianship for children, inheritance distribution, and end-of-life wishes is crucial to preventing uncertainty and family discord.

By addressing these matters openly, you are able to provide clarity, protect your family's financial security, and honour your intentions.

Click here > https://www.sageretirement.com.au/resources to access our Estate Planning Fact Sheet and let’s have those uncomfortable conversations together so we can protect you, your money and your legacy.
