Well, well, well…. CONTROVERSY!!!

…. After a big delay and a review of the footy tipping ladder and eligibility, it appears on “recount” we have a new Top 5…

… Mat Slegers has taken the chocolates (that’s a bit contreversial)!!!

But the standings have bow been confirmed and prizes (gift cards) will be awarded as follows….

1st Place: $300
2nd Place: $200
3rd Place: $100
4th Place: $50
5th Place: $50

… we will make contact with you shortly, and appreciate your patience.

We seem to have an ongoing issue with ‘pretenders’ making their way into the competition and ESPN does not seem to provide the resources to keep these out for the good of the comp.

Therefore, we are likley to making a move away from the ESPN comp and onto another platform… TBA, so stay tuned.

But for now, thanks to all who took part and we will go again for the 2027 season!

19/02/2026

Righto, Tipsters.... it's that time again....

We're 13 sleeps until the Opening Round (which is stupid, if you ask me) to get yourself ready and confirmed for the 2026 AFL season.

We expect to have 50+ tippers this year again, so we're expanding the prizes to 4th and 5th.... and here's a quick run down of what our tipping comp has on offer....

1st: $300 (gift card)
2nd: $200 (gift card)
3rd: $100 (gift card)
4th: $50 (gift card)
5th: $50 (gift card)

On the odd occasion at our choosing, thoughout the season we will offer up a $50 (gift card) for the #1 Tipster of any round chosen by us (TBA, so keep an eye out as it can be decided on late notice).

The Rules.....

1. Cost of Entry: Nothing.... but you MUST be client, employee or an associate of RBS (failing to satisfy your relationship with RBS, will exclude from any prizes)

2. Season: to include both home and away fixtures AND the finals.

3. Forget to Tip: away teams only.

4. Joker Rounds: like last year, there are 2 Jokers to play and YOU get to choose when you want to play yours.... play smart!

5. All Tips Correct: 1 bonus point.

6. Ladder Position: ranked by points and margin.

7. Non-Tippers: Three (3) or more non-tipping rounds in a row will signal your lack of interest and potential removal from the comp.... we want to keep this comp alive and prizes reserved for the active punters.

So, if you are a client or associate of RBS, make sure you get yourself amongst it.

Best of luck and happy tipping!

Well punters, (we're a little late to get this out there) we have our winners of our 2025 ESPN Footy Tipping competition.

It went down to the wire where the bonus points counted for everything during the finals with Bec Slegers taking home the chocolates.... she played the Joker late in the season which turned out to be a master stroke and kept tipping well all finals!

Special mention to a fan favourite here at RBS, Jeddy Warrior who started strong, faltered for a few weeks towards the back end of the season, but still nearly got there in the end falling just a little too short on the margin.

Commiserations to Schyvo who was top of the table heading into Grand Final weekend who only had to tip the winner to take it out, but backed the Cats instead.... unlucky!

Prizes (prepaid Visa or similar)....

$300 Bec Slegers
$200 Jeddy Warrior
$100 Schyvo (TBC)
...we'll be looking to get you your winnings tomorrow ready for the long weekend, so stay tuned.

Thanks to all that participated and stuck it out for the season and we look forward to doing it all again for the 2026 AFL season.

Only 2 more sleeps to go!!!.... (well there was up until more recently).

Carrying over from last season, we currently have 51 tipsters on the roster.... however we may see that number reduce based on rule #7 below.

A quick run down of what our tipping comp has on offer....

1st: $300 (gift card)
2nd: $200 (gift card)
3rd: $100 (gift card)

On the odd occasion: a $50 (gift card) for the #1 tipper of any random chosen by us (TBA).

Rules.....

1. Must be client, employee of an associate of RBS.
2. Season: to include home and away and finals.
3. No tips: lowest comp score -1.
4. Joker Rounds: there are only 2 this year and YOU get to choose when you want to play yours.
5. All tips correct: 1 bonus point.
6. Ladder position: ranked by points and margin.
7. Three (3) or more non-tipping rounds in a row will signal your lack of interest and removal from the comp.... we want to keep this alive and prizes reserved for the active punters.

The competition is still open to enter, so if you are a client or associate of RBS, there is still time to get yourself amongst it.

Lastly, don't forget to get your tips in on time and best of luck!!!

It's that time of year again where punters and pundits alike start considering their AFL footy tipping options and RBS Accountants will again be offering up some great incentives to be involved again this year.

Last year saw The Hoff easily take the chocolates with an impressive display of quality tipping.

Last year we used ESPN as our preferred tipping site and we will do the same again this year.... if you tipped last year, you should already be in the competition.

Should you be missing from the list, wish to add yourself or invite others (must be a client or associate of RBS Accountants), here is the link to the competition...

Some good news for those with (or previously had) a HELP debt, the ATO have now released some guidance....

The bill to change the annual indexation for study and training loans passed parliament.

Once the change is law, indexation will be based on either the Consumer Price Index (CPI) or Wage Price Index (WPI) – whichever is lower.

This change is backdated, taking effect from 1 June 2023.

The new indexation rates for the two previous years are:
> 3.2% for 1 June 2023 - reduced from 7.1%
> 4% for 1 June 2024 - reduced from 4.7%.

We’re currently recrediting excess indexation amounts.

Most people will see these credits on their (ATO HELP) accounts by the end of January 2025.

If the study or training loan account is in credit after the adjustment, this credit will be transferred to the clients Income Tax account..... It will then be applied against other primary tax or Commonwealth debts (if applicable), and any remaining amount refunded to your client’s nominated bank account.

Happy new financial year!

The 1st of July marks the start of the Federal Governments stage-three tax cuts which will soon flow to all income taxpayers in the coming weeks.

If you would like to know what this may be mean for you, there's a handy calculator you can use: https://taxcuts.gov.au/calculator

Other notable changes commencing today....

The Superannuation Guarantee (SG) increases from 11% to 11.5% meaning more money will be heading into the superannuation accounts of employees.

The concessional contribution caps are increasing from $27,500 to $30,000 meaning you can now get more into super and obtain an income tax benefit either by the superannuation guarantee, salary sacrifice and/or personal contributions where an income tax deduction will be claimed..... the carry forward concessional caps remain available, providing your superannuation balance on the 30th June 2024 was below $500,000.

Non-concessional (post tax) contribution caps are increasing from $110,000 to $120,000.

The Medicare Levy Surcharge (MLS) will increase from $93,000 (2024) to $97,000 for individuals and $186,000 (2024) to $194,000 for families... Please note: the family income threshold is increased by $1,500 for each MLS dependent child after the first child.

The deduction for motor vehicles under the cents/km method will increase from 78c to 85c.

Compulsory HELP/TSL/SFSS loan thresholds increase from $51,550 to $54,435.
...as always we recommend our clients to make sure they have their records, receipts and substantiation in order to ensure we can get the best possible outcome for them this tax season.
