🏡 Big news for housing dreams! The new Help to Buy scheme is now open for applications — a major boost if you’ve been saving for a home but still need that little extra support.
✔️ What it offers:
- A shared equity scheme where the Government chips in up to 40% for new homes or 30% for existing homes.
- Buyers need as little as 2% deposit — way lower than what’s usually required.
- No need to pay mortgage insurance just because the deposit is low.
🔄 What “shared equity” means (in simple terms):
- Under the scheme, you and the Government “co-own” the house: you put down a small deposit and borrow a mortgage for your share; the Government pays the rest.
- You live in and control the home — you pay rates, maintenance, insurance, etc. The Government does not charge you rent on their share.
- Later, when you sell or refinance (or if you choose), you repay the Government’s share — which also means they share in any increase (or decrease) in value.
👥 Who might be eligible:
- Singles earning up to $100,000/year.
- Couples or single parents / joint applicants earning up to $160,000/year.
- Must be Australian citizens, 18+, and not already own property in Australia or overseas.
- The home must be your principal place of residence.
đź“… Other key facts:
- Applications opened on 5 December 2025. 1
- Scheme is aiming to help up to 10,000 households per year (~40,000 over four years).
If you’ve been putting off home-buying because the deposit felt out of reach — this could be your chance. 🏠✨
