📢 **Heads up: the ATO is no longer accepting payments via credit cards from 30 November 2026**
From **30 November 2026**, the Australian Taxation Office will stop accepting credit card payments for tax debts. The ATO says it doesn't think the cost of credit card merchant fees should be passed on to the community.
**What this means for you:**
✅ **Debit cards are still accepted**, along with BPAY, direct deposit (EFT), direct debit from your bank account, and in-person payment at Australia Post.
⚠️ **On a payment plan linked to a credit card?** You'll need to update your payment method before your first instalment due after 30 November. You can do this online through ATO Online services or by calling the ATO on 13 11 42.
💡 **Used your credit card to manage cash flow or earn points?** Now's a good time to rethink how you'll cover upcoming BAS, PAYG instalments and tax bills.
