Big shift in trust taxation this week.

The High Court has ruled in Bendel that UPEs are not Division 7A loans, but this isn’t a green light to restructure or act quickly.

With 30 June approaching, we’re advising clients to pause, understand the implications, and speak with us before making any changes.

In this article, Milica Wojno, Principal, and Ian Douglas, Executive Director, from our Sydney office's Corporate Finance team, unpack what happens after an acquisition, specifically why purchase price allocation and impairment testing matter far more than just ticking a compliance box.

Reconciliation Week concluded last week. This year’s theme, “All In,” highlights the collective responsibility we share in building respectful relationships and a more inclusive future.

Across PKF Australia, our teams took the opportunity to learn, reflect and engage with the significance of National Reconciliation Week.

Our Perth team acknowledged the week by sharing educational resources on what Reconciliation Week means, encouraging team members to take time to reflect on this year’s theme and consider how we can each contribute to reconciliation.

In Melbourne, our team reproduced The Path We Tread, the artwork created by Jodie Herden for PKF Australia’s Reconciliation Action Plan, providing an opportunity to reflect on the stories, values and connections represented within the piece.

Our Sydney team welcomed a guest speaker who shared insights into the significance of National Reconciliation Week, helping to deepen understanding of its importance and the role we all play in advancing reconciliation.

Throughout the week, our Reconciliation Action Plan representatives from offices across the country attended local events and community activities to mark the significance of the week. Their participation reflects our commitment to our Reconciliation Action Plan and supports this year’s theme, which reminds us that reconciliation is not a one-time event, but an ongoing journey that requires participation from everyone.

Together, we continue to build our understanding, strengthen relationships and support reconciliation within our communities.

Technology (especially AI) is changing audit, but raising risk.

We asked Tom Burton, Senior Audit Manager in our Melbourne office, where AI genuinely adds value to our team, and what measures we have in place to combat the risk of its use.

We’re not chasing innovation. As a network, we stay ahead of it by embedding it responsibly into our policies and procedures, keeping client needs at the centre of every change.
