If your business couldn't use a credit card for its next tax bill, would the cash be there? ๐Ÿ’ณ

That's a question worth asking as you prepare for the ATO's planned credit card payment change after 30 June 2027.

The extended transition period gives businesses more time to plan, but the cash-flow question remains.

Using a credit card to pay tax can shift the actual cash outflow into a later billing cycle. That can provide useful breathing room โ€” but it can also make an underlying working-capital problem less obvious.

BAS, PAYG withholding, PAYG instalments and income tax shouldn't consistently arrive as unexpected cash requirements. They should form part of your financial forecasting. ๐Ÿ“Š

So rather than asking only:

โ€œHow else will I pay the ATO?โ€

Consider asking:

โ€œWhere will the cash come from when the liability falls due?โ€

Planning ahead can make a significant difference.

Do you currently use a credit card to pay your ATO bills? โš ๏ธ

There's an important change coming โ€” but businesses now have more time to prepare.

From 1 July 2027, the ATO will no longer accept direct credit card payments. That means businesses currently using credit cards for BAS, PAYG, income tax or other tax liabilities need to review how those payments will be funded after 30 June 2027.

But this isn't simply about finding another payment method.

If your credit card has been giving your business extra time between a tax bill falling due and cash actually leaving the business, removing that buffer could expose a bigger cash-flow issue.

This is a seven-month extension of the original deadline, from 1 December 2026 to 1 July 2027. It gives you more time to review your upcoming tax liabilities, payment arrangements and cash reserves โ€” and prepare for cash-flow pressure around the end of the financial year.

Growth creates opportunities. It can also create new risks. โš ๏ธ

Hiring employees, taking on debt, investing in assets, expanding into new markets or simply increasing the scale of your operations can change the financial risks facing your business.

The challenge is recognising those risks before they become bigger problems.

A structured approach to risk management can help business owners identify potential vulnerabilities, understand their impact and make more informed decisions about how they should be managed. ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ

At PCR Accounting & Advisory, we help businesses consider risk as part of their broader financial and business strategy.

FAQ: Why is estate planning important? ๐Ÿ’ฌ

Estate planning is about more than deciding where your assets will go. Having a plan in place can help make your wishes clear and reduce potential difficulties or disagreements for your beneficiaries.

A considered estate plan can help you:

โœ… Stipulate the amount of ownership and control each beneficiary has over your assets
โœ… Reduce tax payable on income and capital gains earned on assets
โœ… Protect assets if a beneficiary faces legal difficulties such as divorce or bankruptcy

At PCR Accounting & Advisory, our estate planning accountants can help ensure the right structures are in place, your assets are distributed the way you want, and you and your loved ones avoid unnecessary financial penalties. ๐Ÿ“‹

Running a successful dental practice involves much more than keeping the appointment book full. ๐Ÿฆท๐Ÿ“Š

Behind the clinical work are decisions about staffing, equipment, cash flow, tax, business structure and future growth.

As a practice develops, understanding how these areas affect profitability can help owners make more informed decisions about where to invest and what comes next.

At PCR Accounting & Advisory, we work with dental professionals to provide accounting and advisory support tailored to the financial realities of running a practice.

October is National Safe Work Month. ๐Ÿฆบ

This year's theme, โ€œSafe work is for life,โ€ is a reminder that creating a safe and healthy workplace matters every day โ€” not just when something goes wrong.

For business owners and leaders, workplace safety is about protecting the people who contribute to the business while building practices that support their health and wellbeing for the long term. ๐Ÿค

Throughout October, businesses across Australia are encouraged to take the time to discuss work health and safety, review their practices and consider how everyone can contribute to a safer workplace.

At PCR Accounting & Advisory, we're proud to support Australian businesses and the people behind them.

Setting a goal is easy. Setting the right goals for your business takes more thought. ๐ŸŽฏ

Business growth rarely comes from focusing on one number alone.

The goals you set can help give direction to everyday decisions, keep your team focused and provide a clearer way to measure whether the business is actually moving forward. ๐Ÿ“ˆ

But not every business goal serves the same purpose.

In this blog, we explore three types of business goals and how each can play a different role in supporting business growth.
