There are people who genuinely need to keep building wealth.

There are people who have far more money than they are likely to ever need.

And then there are the Just Rights.

They have worked hard.

They have superannuation, savings, assets, perhaps a paid-off home or business value.

They have spent decades being responsible, putting the future first, and making sure the family is okay.

They already have enough money to support them for the rest of their lives.

Only problem is, they don't know it yet.

So they keep working another year. Then another. They keep tolerating the job they are tired of.

They keep putting off travel, family time, weekday freedom, hobbies, health, and the moments they said they would enjoy “once things are sorted.”

Not because they are greedy.

Not because they love working.

Because they don't know they already have enough money.

That is why “enough” matters and why you should find out how much money is enough for your retirement.

“We will do that one day.”

Most people have said it about retirement planning, travel, family time, health, hobbies, seeing friends, changing work, or simply having a week that does not revolve around the next deadline.

The problem is that “one day” is very easy to keep moving. There is always another project, another bonus, another reason to stay busy.

If you have spent decades building financial security, wealth, superannuation etc, it’s worth asking when you intend to start using some of that money to enjoy the lifestyle you really want.

The money is there to fund your life.

And you Life is not a Rehearsal.

A million dollars is a lovely number. It has six zeros. It fits on one of those giant game show cheques.

And it has almost nothing to do with your retirement.

Somehow it got stuck in all our heads anyway. Same as "drink eight glasses of water a day." Nobody knows who said it. Nobody checked. It just sounded nice and round, so we all nodded along.

Say "a million in super" at a barbecue and watch what happens. Some people look at you like you just won Lotto. Someone might even hand you the last snag.

But here's the problem. Most of us pick the number first. Then we try to squeeze our whole life into it.

That's like buying shoes before you measure your feet. Sure, size 10 is a nice number. But if you're a size 7, you'll spend retirement shuffling around like a kid in Dad's work boots.

Picture two neighbours. Same street. Same brick house. Same million dollars, right down to the cent.

First there's Barbara. Barbara plays lawn bowls on Tuesdays and Thursdays. She bakes scones that could end wars. Her big splurge is the good jam.

Barbara will probably leave money behind. Along with a waiting list for her scone recipe.

Then there's Kevin. Kevin loves fishing. Not "chuck a line off the pier" fishing.

Kevin goes to the Kimberley every single year. Charter boat. Guide. Flights. Plus a new rod he swears he needed.

Kevin has the exact same million as Barbara. But Kevin is lying awake at 3am. He's doing sums on the back of a bait receipt.

Same number. Totally different story.

The million was never the point. A number only means something once you know what your life costs.

So what does yours cost? Not the fancy version. Just a normal, good Tuesday.

Maybe your Tuesday is lawn bowls and a scone. Maybe it's a full tank of fuel and a bucket of prawns. Either way, it has a price tag. Most people have never looked at it.

Then there's the dream list. The trips. The caravan. Helping the children & grandkids.

So flip it around. Start with the life. Work out what it really costs. Then work out the number required.

It might be less than a million. It might be more. Either way, it's yours. Not something you picked up at a barbecue next to the potato salad.

That's how my Enough Retirement Planning System works. Your life comes first. Money second.

We go through it together, step by step. By the end, you'll know how much is enough (and how best to get it). Enough for your life. Not Barbara's. Not Kevin's.

Still dreading Sunday night?

I know the feeling.

When I was younger, the 60 minutes clock would show up on Channel 9. For me it signaled the end of the weekend and shifts your mind to the working week ahead.

If you're financially ok but still dread Sunday nights, what is your money actually for?

Work can provide structure, friendships, challenge, and a sense of purpose.

But if your role is draining you, your weekends are only for recovery, and your best energy goes to a job you no longer enjoy, then it may be worth asking what your financial security is meant to create.

Perhaps it's full retirement. Perhaps it's fewer working days, or a lower-pressure role.

The point is to understand the options—not automatically stay stuck in the same pattern.

The goal is not always retirement.

But your money is there to support the life you want. That's the point of it.

So if you hate the Sunday night feeling and want to do something about it, it's time we had a chat.

The cost of delaying your retirement is not always financial.

Yes, another year of work may mean another year of income, super contributions, and saving. Those things can matter.

But another year may also mean less energy, less time with family, more stress, more missed opportunities, and another year of postponing the life you say you want.

Waiting can be smart. Sometimes it is exactly the right choice.

But continuing to work is not cost-free.

A good decision looks at both sides: what you gain by working longer, and what life you may be giving up in the process.

“We have superannuation, savings, a paid-off house… so why do I still feel it's not enough money?”

Many people think this because they don't know where they stand financially and what it means for their future.

They have spent decades being responsible. They saved. They worked hard. They paid down debt. They put the future ahead of today. They made sure the family was okay.

However, having money and feeling secure are not always the same thing.

But if you have been responsible, you likely have more options than you realise.

Or you may still have gaps to address.

Either way, you need to find out.

Guessing is not a sound strategy.

Knowing what financial future awaits and the steps you need to take to secure it is.

Do your already have enough money for retirement?

Some people may have built more options than they realise.

Others may need more planning before changing direction.

The issue is that many Australian's never find out which position they are actually in.

Instead, they keep working, keep saving, and keep assuming another year is the responsible choice.

Not necessarily because it is.

Often because no one has helped them understand how much money they need for retirement and whether they are on track.

A clear answer starts with your knowing how much money is enough for you and the steps to take to secure your financial future.

Many Australians have just the right amount of money for retirement and the rest of their life. The trouble is, they just don't know it yet.

These people don't know what financial future awaits - because no one has ever shown them.

They stress & worry about money.

They invest in all the wrong places.

They take too much risk, which ruins their peace of mind.

You may be one of these people.

Ever considered you might not be enjoying life as much as you could?

That you might be going without?

Perhaps saying 'no' when you could be saying 'yes'.

You buy cheap plonk instead of good w**e.

You might take one holiday per year when you can afford three.

You might be missing out big time!

Or worse, because you don't know what your financial future looks like, you spend your hard-earned money but then regret it!

You might buy something then immediately wish you hadn't.

That's no way to live life.

You might be working when you could be playing!

Yet, through all this, you could already have ENOUGH - the right amount of money to last you for the rest of your life.

There are millions of Australians in this situation.

Perhaps you're better off than you thought?

Perhaps you're going to be ok.

It's time to find out.

Stop comparing your retirement intentions to other people.

Retirement conversations are full of partial information.

Someone tells you they retired at 58.

A colleague says they have a certain super balance.

A neighbour renovates their home, travels frequently, and lives a great life.

What you're doing is measuring your future against a story with most of the pages missing.

You do not know their household spending, health circumstances, property position, debt, family obligations, age pension eligibility, appetite for risk, lifestyle preferences, or private worries.

They do not know yours.

Comparisons are unhelpful as they turn another household’s visible outcome into a rule for your own life.

The important comparison is not between you and the person down the street.

It's the one you make between the retirement you want and what action are you taking to achieve it.

You may earn a good income, build super, have investments…and still not know if retirement is actually on track.

We see it all the time.

Full time professionals in their 50s & 60s who look entirely successful on paper — but still feel anxious.

They book holidays and spend half the trip worrying about whether they should really be there.

They have money. They just have no idea if it is enough.

Here is why.

Most people look at what they have.

Very few work out what they actually need.

Retirement planning starts with your life first, not money.

Before anything else, answer one question: Enough money for what?

Once you know what you want, the numbers become clear.

If that question is still unanswered, send me a message.

It costs nothing to find out where you actually stand financially, what financial future awaits, and what you need to do to secure your financial future.
