Despite the pretty scary news the best thing is still, not to panic. Markets are not expected to crash to the same magnitude in 2022 as compared to 2008 (-53%) or 2020 (-37%). As of right now, the S&P/ASX 200 index is in correction territory and down 13% since the start of the calendar year. Sure it could fall further in the short term, but is there a reason for a market crash? A financial crisis or have interest rates risen to a point where it has caused a recession?
We don't believe so. We are not there yet.
Our expectation is that markets will turn around when inflation settles and the outlook for interest rates becomes clearer. The volatility we are currently experiencing will continue until then.
Our recommendation is to seek advice and remain calm to make sure you don't make any decisions you may regret in the future (easier said than done, we know).
