With the end of the financial year fast approaching, employers should start preparing for their annual Single Touch Payroll (STP) finalisation obligations.

Before lodging your STP finalisation declaration, review payroll records to ensure wages, allowances, superannuation, deductions and PAYG withholding amounts have been reported correctly. Any errors should be corrected before finalisation.

Most employers must complete STP finalisation by 14 July each year.

The ATO has noticed some businesses have not updated their GST reporting and accounting methods after exceeding the relevant thresholds.

If a taxpayer's business has a GST turnover of $10 million or more, they need to use full BAS reporting instead of 'simpler BAS', and account for GST on a non-cash (accruals) basis.

If their business has a GST turnover of $20 million or more, they need to report GST monthly on their BAS instead of quarterly.

The ATO is moving some businesses to the correct GST reporting and accounting methods from 1 July 2026, although taxpayers can voluntarily make the switch now in 'Online services for business' on the ATO's website (or contact us for assistance).

Yesterday, we came together to celebrate this years Biggest Morning Tea! ☕🧁🍰

Staff from all five of our offices travelled to Lismore for a day of training and to take part in our annual Cancer Council Biggest Morning Tea.
Our team embraced the occasion, swapping calculators for baking trays and bringing along a fantastic selection of homemade treats to share.

Together, we raised much-needed funds that go towards vital cancer research, support services, prevention programs, and advocacy, helping to make a real difference in the lives of those affected by cancer.

🚗 Car logbooks — are you up to date?

A car logbook helps calculate the business-use percentage of your vehicle expenses for tax deductions. While it can generally be used for up to five years, changes like moving home, changing jobs, or different travel patterns may mean you need a new one.

Using an outdated logbook could result in incorrect claims ❌

✔️ Keep a separate logbook for each vehicle
✔️ Make a written nomination if switching to a new car
✔️ Remember: no claims if the car is employer-provided or under a novated lease
