Today is a sad day for me. I am publicly announcing my retirement. I have tried to contact my Clients before this announcement, but I have now run out of time. 38 Years of stress have taken their toll & continuing to work in such a stress filled field is now putting my future health & life at risk. It is sad to end like this, but my health & family must come first. For Clients for whom I do their financials internally & superannuation Clients I will be send out individual emails. Tomorrow I will finalise what work I can. Please sign any outstanding tax returns as soon as possible, as my tax registration ends this month.
Again, I would like to thank my Clients for their support over the years.

The office will be closed on Monday 30 March 2026. I will be in hospital having a skin cancer removed. It is not life threatening, but where it is may mean I will be out of action for a few days. Please text or email during this period.

Why does the Australian Taxation Office leave voicemail messages. I never get a full message. Today I have his name, & half the client's name. No contact number. Either text me or use the portal. Calling agent number is useless as you are on hold for too long. Portal messaging is useless as you have limited options.

This year has been a struggle. One of the issues has been my weight. I gained a huge amount of weight during the Covid-19 Lockdowns & getting it off when you have a stressful business & life is hard. My liver was clearly affected & I fought hard to fix it. I have lost about 35 kg so far, but that is not halfway to where I need to be. Because of the issues I am constantly exhausted & suspectable to colds & viruses. Progress is being made, but it is slow.

I have always tried to provide a high level of support for my Clients, but the last 2 years I have not met my expectations. I appreciate the support I have had from Clients & especially my wife, who despite having a full-time job comes into my office to support me.

While I recover I will not be taking on new Clients & in some cases I will have to resign as the accountant to some Clients who need more support than I can give.

Rebuilding your accounting business during the start of the tax year is stressful. We are currently updating our tech stack & our first big addition is Client Hub.

Client Hub will replace Dropbox & to some extent Messenger & email. It will provide us with a 256-bit encrypted client portal & communication centre so that we can provide safe communication & storage options for sensitive documents. As we bring clients online instructions & details of our app will be sent out.

We are also in the process of moving our booking software from Microsoft Bookings to the more flexible Calendly.

More changes will be happening over the next few months to hopefully fix some of our issues we have had over the last couple of years.

Approaching 38 years in the Accounting/Tax industry. This year after the Covid-19 years & the damage it did to me & my business I am going to do a full review of how I work & who I work for. I have allowed all the things you should watch out for to happen scope creep being a big one.

I am also going back to my old coach John Peterson at Best Practice to freshen up my focus & attitude & incorporate that into my business plan.
