Boosting Cash Flow for Business

The government are giving temporary cash flow support to small and medium businesses along with not-for-profit organisations that employ staff during the economic downturn associated with COVID-19.

This will be done through two sets of cash flow boosts delivered from 28 April 2020 to support employers to retain employees.

If you are eligible, you do not need to separately apply and upon lodgment of your activity statement, your first amount will automatically be credited to your account but no earlier than 28 April 2020.

Eligible businesses, including not-for-profit organisations, must have held an ABN on 12 March 2020 and lodge your activity statement to receive the credit.

Eligible payments include:

* salary and wages
* director fees
* eligible retirement or termination payments
* compensation payments
* voluntary withholding from payments to contractors.

In addition, you must also have either:

1. derived business income in the 2018–19 income year & lodged your 2019 tax return on or before 12 March 2020

2. made GST taxable, GST-free or input-taxed sales in a previous tax period (since 1 July 2018) and lodged the relevant activity statement on or before 12 March 2020.

New Asset Write Off - $150,000

The government usual instant asset write off limit was set to $30,000 for any single asset.

New limits have been lifted up to $150,000 provided the asset is ready for operation by 30 June 2020 for business whose turnover is less than $500 million.

Granted in "COVID 19" days, most small business are thinking 'survival' rather than spending. Most simply couldn't afford to spend extra cash. Who can afford to go into further debt?

The governments new stimulus package of guaranteeing unsecured small business loans up to $250,000 could help entice businesses into spending.

What is the government trying to achieve by this?

1. Bring tax relief at EOFY
2. Stimulate the economy

Will this help your business?
