AI can feel overwhelming when the tools and terminology seem unfamiliar. But you don’t need to be a technology expert to get started — often, it begins with asking a clear question.

AI can help organise information, compare options and highlight questions you may want to explore. In financial planning, it may be a useful starting point for learning about a topic or preparing for a conversation, but it can’t replace advice tailored to your circumstances.

Good financial decisions start with understanding what matters to you and having a plan that reflects your goals. If you’d like to talk through your financial priorities, contact RetireInvest Wide Bay to arrange a conversation with our team.

Our team enjoyed attending this morning’s Hervey Bay Chamber of Commerce breakfast, where John Hale, The Strategy Guy, shared valuable insights on resilience and the impact of artificial intelligence.

It was a thought-provoking presentation on adapting to change and building confidence in a rapidly evolving world. Thank you to the Chamber for bringing local business leaders together for an informative morning.

One year after the introduction of the new Aged Care Act, older Australians and their families are adjusting to a changed aged care landscape that includes new funding arrangements, higher costs for new entrants and ongoing service demand.

Most of us want to remain living at home and be independent for as long as possible and the Support at Home program is designed to do just that. This program replaced the Home Care Package and is the main way individuals could receive government aged care subsidies to remain at home for longer.

However, there is an incremental waiting list and demand for the eight levels of funding under Support at Home is continuing to exceed the places that are available. As a result, most people are relying on the less robust Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) for subsidised help or they are paying for help privately.

Thankfully, the CHSP entry level aged care funding currently being used by about 850,000 Australians, which was to be wound up in July 2027, has been extended to July 2029 while the government determines how this program can continue to support the community in the longer-term.

For many, it remains a cheaper option for the limited services such as domestic help and social support that many people need to remain at home.

Navigating aged care is very complex and financial advice can help you or a family member understand your current financial position well before you need to access aged care. We can help to reduce stress on the family, so you can make a considered decisions to suit financial, lifestyle and care needs.

Generation Mortgage: Why younger Australians face a very different retirement

For younger Australians, retirement may look quite different from it did for previous generations. Higher housing costs and ongoing mortgage repayments could shape when people retire and how much income they’ll need.

Vanguard’s How Australia Retires 2026 research found:

• 48% of surveyed Gen Z and 37% of Millennials expect to still have a mortgage in retirement.
• Most working-age Australians expect to retire at 66 or 67, compared with an average retirement age of 63 reported by those already retired.
• Australians under 45 estimate they’ll need more than $90,000 a year in retirement, compared with around $60,000 reported by Australians aged 65 and over.
• 45% of working-age Australians say they don’t have a retirement plan.

A plan doesn’t need to be complicated. Start by thinking about when you’d like to retire, where you want to live, whether you may still have a mortgage and what kind of lifestyle you hope to enjoy.

Small steps, taken early and reviewed regularly, can help you understand your options. Contact our team if you’d like to discuss your retirement goals. Any financial strategy should be considered in light of your personal circumstances.

Some of our RetireInvest Wide Bay team had a wonderful night at the Fraser Coast Mates Pink Dinner last Friday night.

Our Director, Genevieve, is proud to be a committee member of Fraser Coast Mates, an organisation that shines a light on mental health in our community and helps connect people with support.

The evening was filled with community spirit, great company and plenty of time on the dance floor. Guest speaker Craig Hamilton also shared powerful reflections on mental health that gave everyone plenty to think about.

Thank you to Fraser Coast Mates and everyone involved for creating such a memorable night and bringing the community together for an important cause.

Retirement starts long before your last day at work.

There are certain moments in life that reshape not just your finances, but the way you live.

Starting a family, moving overseas for a job, changing careers - retirement belongs in that same category in terms of its significance.

Traditionally, retirement has been viewed as a single milestone celebrated on the day you stop working. But in reality, it's one of the longest and most significant chapters of your life - one that's being reshaped by longer life spans, evolving retirement rules and rising living costs.

A few things to think about along the way:

• Before retirement: What lifestyle are you aiming for? Review your super, debts and savings, and consider when and how you’d like to retire.
• As retirement begins: Think about where your income will come from and how to make your savings last while keeping pace with rising costs.
• As life changes: Consider whether your home, healthcare plans, will and estate arrangements still reflect your needs and wishes.

You don’t need to have every answer today. Start with a conversation, review your plan regularly and adjust it as your circumstances change.

If you’d like to discuss your retirement goals, contact our team. Any strategy should be considered in light of your personal circumstances.
