🚨 BUSINESS OWNERS: A BIG PAYMENT CHANGE IS COMING
From 1 October 2026, businesses will no longer be able to add card surcharges to eftpos, Visa, Mastercard or American Express payments.
If your business currently passes card processing fees onto your customers, now is the time to think about what this change means for you.
Because while the surcharge may disappear… the cost of accepting card payments doesn't necessarily disappear with it.
So where will that cost go?
You may need to consider:
💳 Absorbing the processing fees into your business costs
💰 Reviewing your overall pricing
📊 Looking at how the change could affect your margins
🏦 Reviewing the payment methods you offer
🔎 Comparing the fees charged by your payment provider
Using Xero for online invoice payments?
Xero has confirmed that if you currently apply a card surcharge to invoices, the surcharge will automatically stop from 1 October. Card payments will continue as normal, your customer simply won't have the surcharge added on top.
The important thing is not to wait until October arrives to start thinking about it.
Take some time now to review your payment costs, pricing and margins and decide what works best for YOUR business.
