A budget is not just an accounting tool. It is a personal self-care tool. It helps you to be self-aware, self-disciplined and cultivate a peaceful and purposeful relationship with money.

There is no more burying your head in the sand – creating and managing a budget is a practice that lovingly supports you to get really honest and accountable about your spending and saving habits.

It will help you to be your own authority over your financial decisions and use your financial resources to curate a life that you truly love.

Having an understanding of your ‘money archetype’ is a great place to start when embracing a healthier relationship with money.

It will help you to become more aware of your money patterns and behaviours and with this awareness you can maximise your positive behaviours and find ways to balance and minimise your unhealthier reactions.

Download my free 'money archetype workbook' from my website (link above).

It includes a great reflection activity that will support you in changing and improving the dynamics that exist between you and how you interact with your finances.

It's ok if you still feel like you are finding your feet with your finances.

But a good place to always start is knowing where you are right now. Being clear on what you own and what you owe and looking back 12 months to see what decisions and behaviours have brought you to where you are.

From here you can then consider where you want to be at some point in the future. If its in 6 months time, 2 yrs or 10 year. Knowing where you want to go is key to any journey.

The journey you are taking with your life and your money is no different.

Once you know where you want to get to you can then take meaningful, intentional steps to get there.

Always happy to work with you and help you to clearly understand where you are financially and support you to get to where you want to be.

Take a deep breath.

Pause for a moment and try to think about your last money interaction.

How did it feel?

What were you buying? Why were you buying it?

Write down what you can remember.

Just remember - no judgments.

Breathe.

Allow yourself to notice your money emotions and notice how they feel in your body.

By bravely learning to be present with these strong emotional experiences we will develop such a powerful compassionate self-awareness practice.

In the space that awareness creates, wise solutions blossom.

I had a great chat with Kate Campbell on her How to Podcast about financial well-being and our relationships (with our partners, parents, siblings...you name it)!

I shared some strategies for improving your financial well-being, questions to kick start healthy money conversations in your relationships, the damaging nature of holding onto financial secrets and shame, and reflecting on our childhood upbringing and how that influences our current approach to money.

If you are keen to hear more then pop over to Apple Podcasts to listen to the episode - enjoy!

Whether we like it or not money is an emotional topic. And one that most of us are taught to avoid.

While we might bring mindfulness to every other part of our lives - from what we eat, how we move our bodies we neglect bringing this powerful practice to our relationship and decisions around money.

There are lots of emotions around money that are really uncomfortable, shame, frustration, anxiety, fear, guilt and sadness.

Improving our relationship with money is not about getting rid of these emotions, but learning how to respond to them and not get caught in a cycle of overwhelm.

Sometimes it is about learning to recognise and step away from the whirlpool instead of falling into it.

Then you can observe, what is the main emotion that I am feeling right now? Where has this come from? What can I do to take positive action to work towards feeling more peacefulness?
