NDIS Funding Update – Changes from 1 October 2026

The NDIS has started introducing changes to funding for Social, Economic and Community Participation and Improved Daily Living Skills.

The changes are being phased in:
- From 1 October 2026 for new or reassessed plans
- From 1 February 2027 for plan renewals

Not every support is affected, and the impact will be different for each participant depending on their individual plan and support needs.

If your plan has recently been reassessed or extended, it’s important to check your new budgets and understand how much funding is available for your ongoing supports.

NDIS Funding Update – Changes from 1 October 2026

The NDIS has started introducing changes to funding for Social, Economic and Community Participation and Improved Daily Living Skills.

The changes are being phased in:
- From 1 October 2026 for new or reassessed plans

📢 Important NDIS Change from 1 December 2026 – 90-Day Claim Deadline

From 1 December 2026, NDIS claims will need to be submitted within 90 days of the support being delivered, replacing the previous two-year claiming timeframe. Department of Health

For plan-managed participants, this makes timely invoicing more important than ever. Providers should send invoices promptly so there is enough time for them to be checked, approved and submitted to the NDIS within the required timeframe.

- check service dates and available funding
- keep participants informed when approval is required

NDIS TIP: Don’t just check how much funding you have left — check where it sits.

Your NDIS plan may have funding across different support categories, and not all funding can always be used in the same way.

That means seeing a healthy overall balance doesn’t necessarily mean there is enough funding available for a particular support.

It’s a good idea to regularly check:

-how much funding remains in each category
-how quickly each budget is being used
-whether your spending is tracking evenly across your plan period
-whether there are any areas of significant underspend or overspend

The NDIS Amendment Act has now passed Parliament, and a number of changes will be introduced over time.

For plan-managed participants, one important message is this: there is no need to panic, but it will become even more important to keep invoices, records and claims up to date.

One key upcoming change is that, from 1 December 2026, claims for NDIS supports will need to be made within 90 days of the service being delivered. This means participants, families and providers should avoid holding invoices for long periods before sending them to their plan manager.

There are also future changes coming to plan management, including a new government-approved list of plan management providers from 1 October 2027, with a transition period.

At Braveheart Plan Managers, our commitment remains the same: to support our participants with care, accuracy, clear communication and responsive service. We will continue to monitor these changes and help participants, families and providers understand what they mean in practical terms.
