In Australia, businesses that meet certain criteria are required to register for and pay Goods and Services Tax (GST). The qualifications to pay GST in Australia are:

1. Business turnover

If your business has a turnover of $75,000 or more per year, you are required to register for GST. For some businesses, such as not-for-profit organizations, the threshold is higher at $150,000.

2. Business structure

If your business is structured as a company, partnership, or trust, you are required to register for GST regardless of your turnover. Sole traders are also required to register if their turnover exceeds the threshold.

3. Specific industries

Some industries, such as taxi and ride-sharing services, are required to register for GST regardless of their turnover.

If your business meets any of these criteria, you must register for GST with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) within 21 days of meeting the threshold. Once registered, you will be required to charge GST on your sales and remit the GST collected to the ATO. You will also be able to claim GST credits on eligible purchases you make for your business.
