We hope that you and your family and friends remained safe over the recent cyclone event.
Various governments and other entities are working towards putting together various support measures to those affected by the Cyclone Alfred disaster.
So far these measures include:
🔴Emergency Hardship Assistance
The Emergency Hardship Assistance grant of $180 for individuals or $900 for families is available to help with essential needs, food, medication, clothing and temporary accommodation.
To qualify for the grant you must satisfy all of the following:
- you either live in or are stranded in an eligible area affected by a disaster event
- you have suffered hardship as a result of the event
- you are unable to meet your immediate essential needs for food, clothing, medical supplies or temporary accommodation.

🔴Essential Services Hardship Assistance
The Essential Services Hardship Assistance grant of $150 for individuals or $750 for families is for help with essential services such as, power, gas, water, and sewage. This grant may be available if:
- you live in the affected area, and
- you have lost 1 or more essential services for more than 5 days and are experiencing personal hardship as a result, and
- your utility service provider/s confirm that you lost these essential services.

🔴Essential Household Contents Grant
The Essential Household Contents Grant of $1,765 or $5,300 is available for people who are uninsured, or unable to claim insurance, and who satisfy the income test.
Income test
Your gross (before tax) weekly income must be less than or equal to:
- individual: $1,179 ($61,322 per year)
- couple: $1,630 ($84,782 per year)
- sole parent, one child: $1,632 ($84,841 per year)
- couple, one child: $2,021 ($105,125 per year).
For each additional child, add $391 per week. For each dependent adult, add $451 per week. The income test is applied to all adults over the age of 18 on the application.
Adult dependents over the age of 18 are encouraged to submit their own application.

🔴Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment
A non-taxable lump sum payment of $1,000 per adult and $400 per child younger than 16 is available to those who have been adversely affected by Cyclone Alfred. This includes major property damage to your principle place of residence or other major parts on property, serious injury, missing or death of a family member

🔴The Australian Taxation Office (ATO)
May offer support by providing extra time to pay or lodge, payment arrangements ,and remission of penalties and interest during the time affected.

Many financial institutions are also offering support through deferred loan repayments and waived fees and charges. Please contact your financial institution if you are struggling due to the effects of Cyclone Alfred.
