📢 Upcoming AML/CTF Changes from 1 July 2026

From 1 July 2026, new Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) requirements will apply to certain professional services in Australia, including some accounting, company, trust and transaction-related services.

For AMCP clients, this means we may need to complete identity verification and other due diligence checks before assisting with certain matters, including:

✔️ Company and trust setups
✔️ Director, trustee or shareholder changes
✔️ Registered office services
✔️ Business restructures and ownership changes

These checks form part of our legal and professional obligations and do not mean that anything is wrong or that you are under suspicion.

We are currently updating our procedures and reviewing new software solutions to make the process as smooth and practical as possible for our clients.

If you have any questions about these upcoming changes, please contact our office. We're happy to help.

A quick heads up if you run weekly or fortnightly payroll 👇

Some financial years can include:
• 53 weekly pay runs, or
• 27 fortnightly pay runs

It doesn’t happen every year, but when it does, it can catch people off guard.

This can affect things like payroll reporting, super and tax withheld, so it’s worth being aware as we head towards EOFY.

It may also be a good time to review your payroll setup and forecasts.

If you’re not sure how this applies to your business, our team is here to help.

⚠️ Have you borrowed money from your company?

As 30 June approaches, it's important to review any loans between private companies and their shareholders or related parties.

If the correct documentation and repayments aren't in place, the ATO may treat the loan as taxable income, potentially resulting in an unexpected tax bill.

Before year end, make sure you:
✔️ Review any company loans
✔️ Check required repayments have been made
✔️ Ensure loan agreements are up to date

If you're unsure whether Division 7A applies to your situation, now is a good time to seek advice before 30 June.

EOFY is getting close, which means now is a good time to review whether there are opportunities available to help manage your tax position before 30 June.

AMCP Partner Michael Gigliotti has shared a few EOFY strategies that individuals and businesses may wish to consider 👇

For Individuals:
✔️ Maximising super contributions
✔️ Prepaying deductible expenses
✔️ Making donations to registered charities

For Businesses:
✔️ Utilising the Instant Asset Write-Off for eligible business assets
✔️ Reviewing bad debts and outstanding invoices

Every situation is different, so it is important to seek advice relevant to your own circumstances before implementing any EOFY strategy.

💰 Good news for small businesses from this year’s Federal Budget.

The $20,000 Instant Asset Write-Off is set to become a permanent part of the tax system for eligible businesses from 1 July 2026.

This means eligible small businesses may continue to immediately deduct qualifying assets under $20,000 rather than depreciating them over a number of years.

The changes may assist businesses planning:
🖥️ Technology upgrades
🚗 Business vehicles
🛠️ Equipment purchases
🏢 Operational improvements

As always, the timing of purchases and eligibility requirements remain important.

If you are considering purchasing business assets or planning ahead for EOFY, please contact the AMCP team to discuss your situation.

🏢 The Federal Budget also included proposed changes to discretionary trust taxation.

From 1 July 2028, the Government has proposed introducing a 30% minimum tax on discretionary trusts, which may affect how trust income is distributed in the future.

While the legislation has not yet been released, the proposed changes may impact:
📌 Family trusts
📌 Business structures
📌 Investment entities
📌 Future tax planning decisions

The Budget also announced a temporary restructuring relief window from 2027, which may create opportunities for some business owners and investors to review their current structures.

As many details are still to be confirmed, now is a good time to begin reviewing your current arrangements and understanding what the proposed changes may mean for you.

If you would like to discuss your circumstances, please contact the team at AMCP.

EOFY is just over a month away… and now’s a great time to get a few things sorted.

We’re already helping clients get organised for year end, so if you haven’t started yet, here are 3 simple things to focus on 👇

• Get your bookkeeping up to date
• Follow up on any outstanding invoices
• Start thinking about any purchases or expenses before 30 June

A little bit of prep now can make things much easier in June.

If you need a hand, our team is here to help.

EOFY doesn’t need to be stressful — a bit of planning now goes a long way.

⚡ Electric vehicle tax concessions are set to change under the proposed Federal Budget measures.

The Government has announced plans to gradually reduce the current Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) exemptions available on some electric vehicles provided through novated lease arrangements.

Under the proposed changes:
🚗 Full concessions may only continue for EVs under $75,000 from 1 April 2027
🚗 Higher-priced EVs may receive reduced tax benefits
🚗 Existing arrangements may also be affected in some cases

If you currently have an EV under a novated lease, or are considering one in the future, now may be a good time to review the potential impact of these proposed changes.

Please contact the team at AMCP if you would like to discuss your situation.

🏠 Proposed negative gearing changes were another major announcement from the Federal Budget.

While existing investment properties are expected to remain protected, the rules for future property purchases may change significantly from 1 July 2027.

Under the proposed changes:
📌 Rental losses on some future property purchases may no longer reduce salary income
📌 Newly built properties are expected to retain full negative gearing benefits
📌 Investment property decisions may become more complex moving forward

These proposed changes, together with the new Capital Gains Tax measures, could have a significant impact on future property investment strategies.

If you are considering purchasing an investment property or would like to understand how the proposed changes may affect you, please contact the AMCP team.

☕🍪 Biggest Morning Tea at AMCP

A very successful morning fuelled by coffee, cookies, and a great cause 💛

Today the team came together to support the Cancer Council’s Biggest Morning Tea, raising an amazing $641 through donations across the office 🎉

Thanks to everyone who baked, donated, and stopped by for a treat throughout the morning. Safe to say the cookies disappeared VERY quickly 👀🍪
