Earlier this year Fox & Hare Financial Advice signed a $41,000 base pay increase for our team (not including performance bonuses).
That's a LOT for a small business.
But guaranteed pay rises in line with inflation are part of our commitment to fairness in business.

Michael* was bullied early in life and, as a result, was plagued by feelings of self doubt in adulthood.
He told us he'd felt trapped by the pressure to project and image of success - running up $103,000 in credit card debt to show the world he'd made it.
He was keeping up with the minimum payments but the debt was still growing
And to make matters worse, the debt was starting to affect his personal life.
"It's making my relationship difficult. We can't join our accounts because I am in so much debt. It's sucking the joy out of a perfect situation..."
Michael was paying $18,500 per year in interest.
He didn't know that if he continued to pay the minimum his debt could have taken over 54 years to pay down.
He sought help and 18 months later:
💸 $0 bad debt
🏡 1 x home purchased &
💍 1 x successful marriage proposal
How did he do it?
1. Claimed Financial Hardship
The Fox & Hare team got in touch with Michael's debt provider to secure new terms and a payment plan.

If you're struggling with debt don't hesitate to call your provider. Even on a $300,000 salary like Michael financial hardship is a real thing.
2. Set up a Cashflow Strategy
We built a cashflow strategy that allowed Michael to pay down his debts while still enjoying the things he loves.
We also built an automated payment structure that would pay his debts before his salary landed in a spending account!
3. Didn't Judge
$100,000 debt is nothing to be sniffed at - but what would be the point in passing judgement on a person's mistakes?
ESPECIALLY when they've taken the step to ask for help.
Michael tried to tackle his debts alone for TWENTY years.
With a helping hand they were gone in less than two.

It's tax time and we've got a controversial take.
We don't think the tax man's all THAT bad.
Sure, we're under no illusion the system is perfect (*cough* PRRT)
But there's no denying those dollars do a lot of good.
And whether it's bringing Australia within a stone's throw of ending the AIDS epidemic or bringing back our native animals from the brink...
We're actually pretty proud of what our tax dollars achieved in 2024!

It's estimated that seven MILLION children are subjected to physical and sexual abuse in the Philippines every year.
But the mothers, staff and volunteers at SOS Children's Village, Cebu are fighting back.
Together, they provide a stable home, care and support for up to 140 children.
And it's working like a charm.
The children who grow up at SOS are beating the odds. They're going on to university, running for office and contributing to a better Philippines 💕
But Aunty Florence, village leader and all around legend, is struggling to keep up with tuition fees.
So,
After treating the families to a HUGE party (because heroes should be celebrated) the F&H team came up with a plan to deliver:
1 x FULLY PAID university scholarship + internship opportunity
1 x Back to school kit (per student)
&
1 x Holiday sports clinic for EVERY child at SOS Children's Village, Cebu.
Delivered by June 2025.
The metrics are set and we know exactly what we need to achieve to afford the program.
It's written into the Fox & Hare Financial Advice principles that we reduce inequality wherever we do business.
And we couldn't be more proud to see these ideals coming to life!

"I was at one of the lowest points of my life.
I’d broken up with my boyfriend, moved out of our place in Geelong and I was just kind of house hopping around.
I was half living out of my car and Dad’s place, and it was just s**t.
But as I was hopping around those different places, I came to visit a friend here in Wānaka and fell in love.
I went for a run along the lake and that was it!
I ran back to my friends place and told him ‘I’m moving in 8 weeks!’
I sold my car, put some stuff in storage and moved to NZ for the year!
I’d saved an emergency fund of $8,000 and the move cost about three quarters of that.
I was very lucky that my dad offered to help pay but I didn’t need to take him up on it.
Because I'd saved up that emergency fund, I was able to stand on my own two feet and pay my own way.
Which makes me so proud.
I’ve been here for a couple of months and just have this amazing sense of coming back to who I was.
I’m back out enjoying my life, I’m back training and talking to people.
And I’ve met the most amazing new friends. Last weekend we road tripped to Auckland, we’ve got a road trip coming up to Christchurch soon and I love being able to get outside and look at the pretty views while I run.
I don’t even have to try and enjoy myself.
You know where I would have been if it wasn’t for that emergency fund?
On my dad’s couch.
I would’ve had to move home.
But instead, I'm here and I'm having the time of my life."

“My dad is almost 70 and not long retired.
But he’s still having to go out and climb ladders...
He was a roofer and he’s still out doing the odd job here and there - just for his golf or fishing money.
Yes, he's got his car and his motorbike, but he's no savings.
And If I’d followed in his financial footsteps – which I was – I’d be relying on a state pension when I’d get to his age, too.
But I don't want to be working when I'm in my seventies.
I want to be enjoying it.
.
I want to be… well, I don't want say ‘not working’, but I want be doing what I want to do – not what I have to do.
I think that’s the best way to put it.
It's going to take hard work between now and then.
But yeah, I got the right guidance and in just a few years I am already in a very different place to where I was.
I own a home and, hopefully, will have another by the end of the year.
I have stocks, shares and super contributions that are all set up to handle themselves
And I am confident that when the day eventually comes
I’ll be able to put the mouse and keyboard away and do whatever it is that I want to do!"

“I was sitting there with $20,000 debt and Simon’s* asking, ‘what are your goals?’ ‘What do you like to do?’, ‘What do you want out of your life?’
I was thinking ‘what!?”
I don’t know how to pay off this twenty grand and you’re asking what I want to do with my life!?
It all felt very wishy washy.
But it turned out the goal was what I needed!
That’s what gave me the purpose I needed to pay the debt off.
And I smashed it.
It’s probably finance 101, but the first thing we did was put a cashflow plan with ‘buckets’ in place.
So, rather than thousands and thousands of dollars just landing in my bank account every pay day, it’s all automatically sorted.
Here’s how much I have to spend; my bills are all covered by this.; my savings are safely stashed away over there.
There was no more spending an entire month’s pay in one week, then counting pennies for the next month.
It was so transformative!
And within a year and a half I'd paid off all $20,000 of credit card debt.
Which I can't even begin to describe how enormous that was.
I still remember calling AMEX to cancel the card!”

"My partner and I got to a point, after years of living in Sydney, where we needed a change.
I’d been working in agencies for so many years and from both a lifestyle and career point of view,
I was a bit burnt out.
And so, we took a bit of a lifestyle pivot, moved to the Gold Coast and started freelancing.
It was scary to go from having a full-time job with a good income to literally nothing
But I was confident because I knew the way I spend my money, and I knew it’s all set up and working.
So, while it might not be forever, and the big city might lure us back with a career opportunity or something like that,
For now, we’re just living our best Gold Coast lives.
We’ve found the balance between working hard, but also being able to spend a few hours at the beach.
We’ve got time to go to the gym every day and just booked off a month in March!
So yeah, right now, it’s bliss."
