A heads-up for our clients.

From 1 July 2026, new Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing rules will apply to certain accounting services in Australia.

This means we’ll need to update parts of our client verification process over the coming months.

For some clients, this may include confirming identity, business details, ownership structures or authorised contacts. This applies to some existing clients too, not only new clients.

It’s similar to the identity checks banks already carry out. It does not mean anything is wrong, it’s part of the new compliance requirements for our industry.

And yes, we know, it’s another admin task. To be honest, it’s a bit of an admin nightmare for us too 😉

Please keep an eye out for communication from our team and respond as soon as you’re able. This will help us keep your records up to date and avoid delays with future work.

If you receive a request from us and you’re unsure what to do, please get in touch. We’ll help you through it.

Before 30 June, it’s worth checking whether you have opportunities to make deductible contributions or donations in a way that supports both your financial position and causes you care about.

A few things to consider before EOFY:

✅ Personal super contributions.
Personal super contributions may be tax deductible, but the timing matters. Your contribution needs to be received by your super fund before 30 June.

✅ Tax-deductible donations.
Donations of $2 or more to eligible Deductible Gift Recipients may be tax deductible. If you’re planning to donate before EOFY, check the organisation’s DGR status and keep your receipt.

🤍 Supporting causes that matter.
One organisation we’re proud to support is Yourtoolkit.com, a practical Australian resource helping women experiencing domestic abuse access safe, step-by-step information and support.

If you’re thinking about giving before 30 June, this is a meaningful cause to consider, while also making sure you understand what is tax deductible for your situation.

If you’re unsure what applies to you, please get in touch before 30 June - we’re happy to help.

Last week Gill attended her first board meeting as Employer Director of the Government Employees Superannuation Board.

GESB plays an important role in Western Australia, administering super and retirement savings for current and former WA public sector employees. To contribute to an organisation with such a significant responsibility is an opportunity that Gillian is excited to embrace.

18/05/2026

If you want to have a super contribution counted in the 2025-2026 financial year, you need to ensure your super fund receives it by 30 June 2026.

The key date for contributions is not when you make the payment, but when it’s received by your super fund. Keep in mind that electronic fund transfers and BPAY can take a number of days to appear in your super account.

A reminder that the concessional contribution limit for 2025 - 2026 is $30,000, and this includes contributions your employer makes on your behalf (including super guarantee and salary sacrifice).

You may be eligible to contribute more than your normal contribution cap if you have unused concession cap amounts accrued. You can also contribute to your low-income earning or non-working spouse’s super and claim an offset.

If you would like to review your super strategy before the end of the financial year, speak with our team.

Budget 2026 has been handed down, and there are a few proposed changes worth having on your radar.

Some of the key areas include:
- Capital gains tax
- Negative gearing and rental property
- The $20,000 instant asset write off
- Trust distributions
- PAYG instalments
- Electric vehicle FBT changes

We know many clients are already thinking about what the proposed capital gains and rental property changes mean for them.

At this stage, these measures are not yet legislation, so it is hard to give firm advice until the final detail is released and passed.

What we can do now is help you understand what has been announced, what might be relevant to your situation, and what to start thinking about before 30 June.

June is the right time to review your position before the end of the financial year.

Payday Super is on the horizon. While this is a compliance change, it also affects how you manage cash flow and plan for tax. Waiting until the last minute to adjust could create pressure on your business. Taking the time now to review your payroll processes and systems will make the transition much smoother.

AccountantsDaily discusses how the timing will work in practice. Employers will need to ensure super is not only paid on payday, but also received by the employee’s fund within a short timeframe. Delays outside your control could still create compliance risks.

The Government has acknowledged concerns around concessional contribution caps, with plans to introduce amendments so individuals are not impacted by unintended breaches during the transition year.
