Has your business outgrown its current structure?

A sole trader or partnership structure may have worked in the early years, but as revenue, risk, employees and assets grow, it may be time to consider whether a company or different structure is more appropriate.

The end of the financial year can be a practical time to make a change, allowing the new financial year to begin in the new structure.

Structure decisions should consider tax, commercial risk, asset protection, succession and how the business is expected to grow.

If your business has changed, your structure may need to as well. Talk to HQB before 30 June.

Sold an asset this year, or expecting a capital gain?

Do not wait until tax time to ask what it means. There may be planning options to consider before 30 June, including whether losses on other assets, superannuation contributions or other strategies may help manage the overall tax outcome.

The earlier the conversation happens, the more options may be available.

For business owners, family groups and investors, asset sales should be reviewed before the year is closed.

If you have sold an asset this financial year, speak with HQB now.

Eligible small businesses may be able to claim an instant asset write-off for new assets costing less than $20,000.

While this is a small business measure, it can still be relevant to larger family groups or business owners with eligible entities inside a broader structure.

Asset purchases before EOFY should be planned, not rushed.

Before purchasing equipment or assets before 30 June, speak with HQB about whether the instant asset write-off may apply.

EOFY is not just a deadline for established businesses. It is a decision point.

Before 30 June, companies, trusts, partnerships and family business groups may need to review super contributions, family wages, trust distributions, partnership arrangements, prepayments, asset sales and business structure.

Once 30 June passes, some opportunities may no longer be available. If your business has had a high-income year, sold an asset, changed direction or outgrown its current structure, now is the time to speak with HQB.

Do not wait until the year is closed. Talk to HQB before 30 June.

Last night’s 2026–27 Federal Budget gives accountants, business owners and investors plenty to think about. While the Budget included broader measures across areas such as defence, aged care, fuel security and cost-of-living relief, the tax announcements are likely to be the most relevant for many of our clients. In particular, the proposed changes to negative gearing, capital gains tax and discretionary trusts could have a significant impact over the next few years. We summarise some of the key proposed changes... Read more here:
