End of quarter BBQ, and plenty to celebrate!

A happy 30th to Adam, 10 years with The Field Group for Frank and Mollie, Frank's engagement and Bec's marriage. Big congratulations to all of you.

We're lucky to have such a great team. Here's to the next quarter!

Big change for any business that takes card payments. From 1 October 2026, card surcharges are being banned.

That means no more adding a percentage at the terminal. Your displayed prices will need to include the cost.

Australians currently pay about $1.6 billion a year in surcharges, so this is a real shift.

A few jobs before October:

- Check what card acceptance is actually costing you
- Ask your payment provider for a better rate
- Update your POS, signage and online checkout to all inclusive pricing
- Build it into your 2026-27 budget

Worth starting now, not in September.

Thinking about putting an electric vehicle through your business? The FBT exemption is being wound back, so timing matters.

Here is the short version:

- Until 31 March 2027: full exemption stays as is
- From 1 April 2027: EVs $75,000 and under keep it, dearer ones drop to a 25% discount
- From 1 April 2029: a flat 25% discount across the board

Already in a lease? You are grandfathered, so your current deal is safe.

If an EV is on the cards, sorting it before 31 March 2027 locks in the best version.

30 June is nearly here, and your SMSF has a few jobs that cannot wait until the last minute.

A quick checklist:

- Contributions need to be in the fund's bank account by 30 June, not just sent
- Notice of intent lodged and acknowledged if you are claiming a deduction
- Assets valued at market value with proof on file
- Minimum pension payments made before year end

Caps are also lifting from 1 July. The concessional cap goes from $30,000 to $32,500.

A little time now saves a lot of stress later.

Xero credited us for their recent outages. We did something different with it.

The past few months have been rough, especially for small businesses juggling BAS and tax deadlines. As a Xero partner, we were offered a credit on behalf of our managed clients.

Rather than splitting it across individual accounts, we rounded it up to $10,000 and donated the full lot to FightMND.

That covers 400 digital Big Freeze beanies, with every dollar going straight to Motor Neurone Disease research.

To our clients, thank you for being part of this. You helped turn a frustrating run into something that matters.

Negative gearing. CGT. Family trusts. The 2026 Budget changed a lot.

If you've got a rental property, a family trust, or you're planning a big asset sale, you'll want to know what's coming.

FBT year ends March 31. If your business provides cars, entertainment, or other non-cash benefits to employees (including directors), now's the time to get your records in order.

A few things to do before the deadline:

- Record odometer readings for any business vehicles
- Review benefits provided between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2026
- Common fringe benefits include motor vehicles, entertainment, short-term loans, and various employee expenses

Not sure if FBT applies to your business? Get in touch with your accountant, or reach out to us and we'll help you figure it out.

Got an SMSF? Two compliance rules trip up more trustees than you would think.

If your fund deals with family or a related business, swipe through. These are the things the ATO looks at first.

Getting it wrong can mean penalties or a higher tax rate on your fund. Better to check now than find out the hard way.

New ATO guidance could mean a huge tax bill on the family home when it gets passed down.

The way your will is worded matters more than most people think. Swipe through to see what has changed and what you can do about it.

If your will is more than a few years old, it is worth getting it looked at.
