Big change for any business that takes card payments. From 1 October 2026, card surcharges are being banned.

That means no more adding a percentage at the terminal. Your displayed prices will need to include the cost.

Australians currently pay about $1.6 billion a year in surcharges, so this is a real shift.

A few jobs before October:

- Check what card acceptance is actually costing you
- Ask your payment provider for a better rate
- Update your POS, signage and online checkout to all inclusive pricing
- Build it into your 2026-27 budget

Thinking about putting an electric vehicle through your business? The FBT exemption is being wound back, so timing matters.

Here is the short version:

- Until 31 March 2027: full exemption stays as is
- From 1 April 2027: EVs $75,000 and under keep it, dearer ones drop to a 25% discount
- From 1 April 2029: a flat 25% discount across the board

Already in a lease? You are grandfathered, so your current deal is safe.

If an EV is on the cards, sorting it before 31 March 2027 locks in the best version.

30 June is nearly here, and your SMSF has a few jobs that cannot wait until the last minute.

A quick checklist:

- Contributions need to be in the fund's bank account by 30 June, not just sent
- Notice of intent lodged and acknowledged if you are claiming a deduction
- Assets valued at market value with proof on file
- Minimum pension payments made before year end

Caps are also lifting from 1 July. The concessional cap goes from $30,000 to $32,500.

Xero credited us for their recent outages. We did something different with it.

FBT year ends March 31. If your business provides cars, entertainment, or other non-cash benefits to employees (including directors), now's the time to get your records in order.

A few things to do before the deadline:

- Record odometer readings for any business vehicles
- Review benefits provided between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2026
- Common fringe benefits include motor vehicles, entertainment, short-term loans, and various employee expenses
