I’ve been thinking about this a lot.

Mother’s Day can look one way on the surface. The flowers, the cards, the (hopefully) slow morning. But for a lot of women running businesses, there’s still work to do, deadlines to meet, and families to hold together in the background.

It’s the behind-the-scenes work that doesn’t stop. The mental load of both home and business. The constant switching between roles, often without a clear line between the two.
I see it every day in the clients we work with. Mums building businesses, supporting families, and carrying more than what’s visible.

I touched on this in my latest blog, because the reality of motherhood, especially alongside running a business, is rarely what you see on the surface. But the resilience, care, and work behind it deserves to be recognised more often. Link in bio.

I completely missed Bieber fever the first time around. But after falling down the Bieberchella rabbit hole recently, I became fascinated by something that had nothing to do with the music.

How does someone earn hundreds of millions of dollars and still end up under financial pressure?

Because here’s the uncomfortable truth:

Income and financial security are not the same thing.

And bad money habits don’t suddenly disappear once you earn more money. In many cases, they just become easier to hide.

This article isn’t really about Justin Bieber. It’s about the psychology of money, the habits we learn growing up, and why earning more doesn’t automatically lead to better financial decisions.

Thinking of buying a ute before 30 June to reduce your tax?

STOP!

Before you sign anything, get advice.

This is one of the most common — and most expensive — misconceptions we see with tradies:

❌ "Dual cab utes are exempt from FBT."

Many business owners don't even know what FBT is — but it's something the ATO are cracking down on.

It comes down to two things:
→ How the ute is designed — payload must be 1 tonne or more
→ How it's actually used — private use must be minor, infrequent and irregular

Even limited private use can trigger FBT. And getting it wrong means paying more tax and interest you weren't expecting.

If FBT does apply, you'll also need:
✔ A logbook
✔ Odometer reading as at 31 March
✔ An employee declaration

Does your accountant ask you these questions?
We do.
We work through this with all of our clients to make sure that if the ATO ever comes knocking, we have your back. We don't ignore this stuff — we want our clients informed and protected.

A ute purchase can be a smart move before 30 June. It can also be a costly one if the structure isn't right.

We've talked about Payday Super plenty.

But this post isn't for the business owners already paying weekly and feeling on top of it.

It's for the ones who've put it in the too-hard basket and are quietly feeling overwhelmed about how they'll manage when 1 July rolls around.

Maybe you're hoping it'll sort itself out.

Maybe you're flat out and haven't had a chance to think about it properly.

Maybe you're worried about cash flow, or how July is going to look when your final quarterly payment lands at the same time the new system kicks in.

Wherever you're at, here's all we need from you:
A phone call. An email. Even a quick message that says "I'm not sure how I'm going to manage this."

From there, we'll work through your numbers, look at where the pressure is, and put a plan in place — well before 1 July.

When you're ready, call our Practice Manager Sharon on 0456 915 617 to organise an appointment with Kim — or book a tax advice meeting straight through our website.

Fuel prices are still putting pressure on many businesses right now, but there is some temporary relief.

The fuel excise has been halved until 30 June 2026, giving you a bit of breathing room.

Here’s what to focus on:
• Cash flow support
ATO payment plans and relief options are available. Reach out if you need to discuss these options before your next BAS.
• Review pricing
Make sure rising costs aren’t eating into your margins. Do you need to increase your prices now?
• Plan for July
Fuel costs are likely to increase again from 1 July 2026.

If you’re a Clinton & Co client, this is something we’re across and can support you with.

Not a client? Book a discovery call and let’s help you stay in control.

The ATO and Fair Work are stepping up compliance activity, including AI-driven detection of contractor arrangements and increased audits.

If you use subcontractors or casual staff, this directly affects you.

We’ve broken it down clearly in our latest blog so you know:
• What the ATO is focusing on
• The risks you need to be aware of
• What to do right now to stay compliant

At Clinton & Co, this is exactly what we stay on top of for our clients, so you don’t have to second guess it.
