⚡🚗 Charging your EV at home for work use? There’s more going on here than just plugging it in and hoping for the best.

EV home charging is now an area with a surprising amount of rules around how costs are calculated - and yes, the ATO expects proper methods and evidence.

So if you’re:
⚡Charging a work vehicle at home
⚡Claiming business-related EV use
⚡Or trying to figure out what portion is actually deductible

…it’s worth understanding how the calculations are meant to work (and not just guessing at tax time).

📊 The key issue? It’s not about what feels reasonable - it’s about what can be supported.

We know this isn’t tax related… but news is news in business 👀 And this one might sting a smidge for anyone who’s been quietly adding a “little something extra” at the checkout.

💳 Credit card surcharge ban incoming (from 1 October 2026)

That’s right - the days of passing on card fees to customers are officially on the way out for Visa, Mastercard and EFTPOS payments (debit, credit and prepaid).

And no, calling it an “admin fee”, “service fee” or “handling charge” won’t get you out of it either 😅

📌 What it means in plain English: If you’re charging extra for card payments now… you’ll need a new plan.

💡 Time to start thinking about:
- Absorbing the cost (yes… into your margins 😬)
- Tweaking your pricing (the sneaky-but-standard option)
- Setting minimum spends (carefully!)
- Making sure your team isn’t still saying “it’s just a card fee” after the rule changes

The good news? You’ve got time.

The bad news? Not that much time once you put it on the “we’ll deal with it later” pile 😄
