Scam letters and emails are getting harder to spot. We’ve recently seen examples of communications claiming to be from ASIC and requesting payment. At first glance, they can look legitimate, with official-looking logos and contact details. Before you pay, click, or share details, pause and check. ASIC communications should come from an .gov.au email address, and you can contact ASIC directly to verify anything you are unsure about.

Made personal super contributions in the 2024-25 financial year? Here's one step you do not want to miss.

To claim a tax deduction, you need to submit a Notice of Intent to Claim form to your super fund and receive acknowledgement before lodging your 2025 tax return, or by 30 June 2026, whichever comes first.

Interesting research from the Reserve Bank showing cash use in Australia has stopped declining and is actually increasing slightly.

What caught my attention is why people still use it. The most common reason is that it simplifies budgeting. Cash creates a natural spending limit that digital payments don't have.

There's something to that. When you withdraw $100 for the week, and that's what you have to spend, you're forced to be more conscious about where it goes. Tap-and-go doesn't create the same awareness.

Three-quarters of Australians still carry cash. Most say they keep it as a backup in case electronic payment systems fail.

Cash might be old-fashioned, but it still serves a purpose for many people when it comes to managing their spending.

Around half of Australians still use cash in a typical week, and we keep about $65 in our wallets.
