📚 ATTAX Office Update 📚

Just a reminder that Liz and I are in town for the rest of the week attending training and conferences. Between the two of us we'll be filling our heads with tax updates, compliance changes, AML/CTF requirements and all the exciting accountant stuff! 🤓

Don't panic though – ATTAX is still open!

📚 TAX NERDS ON TOUR! 📚

The ATTAX office will be closed this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday while Ange and Liz head to Brisbane for a three-day tax conference.

We'll be spending the week learning about upcoming tax changes, compliance updates, trust issues, small business matters and all the other exciting things accountants get excited about! 🤓

While we're away, emails and phone messages will be monitored periodically, however responses may be delayed.

💰 TAX TIME TIDBIT – FRANKING CREDITS 💰

Here's a little-known one for our retirees and non-lodgers.

The ATO has an automatic refund program for some people who receive fully franked dividends and don't normally lodge a tax return.

If you're:
✅ Over 60
✅ Have total dividends under $18,200
✅ Have franking credits under $5,460
✅ Have held the same parcel of shares for the last 2 years
..you may receive your franking credit refund automatically from the ATO from mid-July.

No forms. No tax return. No chasing the refund.

Of course, not everyone qualifies, and if your circumstances are more complex, you may still need to lodge.

Who else remembers when the only thing you got in the mail was a dividend cheque? 😄

It's Friday... and we're officially clocking off for the weekend! 🎉

The phones are down, the calculators are resting, and the coffee cups are empty.

🤒 Well, it turns out even accountants can't claim a tax deduction for the flu!
I've been knocked around by a nasty dose of the flu this week and will be taking a couple of days to rest and recover. I plan to be back in the office on Thursday, ready to tackle your tax and accounting questions.
In the meantime, Liz is in the office and holding down the fort, so if you need assistance please don't hesitate to give us a call.

💰 TAX TIP – THOSE LITTLE CHARITY DONATIONS MAY NOW COUNT! 💰

One of the lesser-known tax changes announced is the removal of the $2 minimum donation threshold for tax-deductible gifts.

What does that mean?

Those small donations you make throughout the year may now be deductible, including:

🛒 Rounding up your shopping bill for charity
☕ Small workplace fundraising donations
❤️ Micro-donations through apps and payment platforms
🎗️ Other eligible charitable contributions

Many Australians make dozens of these small donations each year without thinking twice. Individually they may only be cents or a few dollars, but over a full financial year they can add up.

So before throwing away those receipts, take a second look. You may have more deductible donations than you realise.

As always, donations must be made to eligible charities and records should be retained.

⏰ PAYDAY SUPER IS COMING! ⏰

From 1 July 2026, employers will need to pay their employees’ superannuation at the same time as wages are paid.

This is a major change from the current quarterly superannuation system and will impact businesses of all sizes.

What does this mean for employers?

✅ Super will need to be processed each pay run
✅ Cash flow planning will become more important
✅ Payroll systems may need updating
✅ Late super payments could be identified much sooner
✅ Additional penalties may apply for non-compliance

Now is the time to review your payroll processes and make sure your business is ready.

If you currently process payroll manually or only think about super once a quarter, we strongly recommend preparing well before 1 July 2026.
