We're now into the second week of the new financial year and there's a couple of reminders for everyone. Firstly for businesses; your BAS and superannuation payments will be coming due shortly and you will need to finalise your single touch payroll for FY2020 if you have employees and are registered for GST. For both businesses and individuals; it's that dreaded tax time so you'll need to be gathering together all your documentation and starting to think about lodging your return for FY2020. There's no real rush and there's still plenty of time, but if the ATO owes you some money it's better off in your pocket than theirs.

It's New Years' Eve for the ATO tomorrow and also the end of the 4th quarter for FY2020, so not only is it time for everyone to start thinking about their tax returns in the coming weeks and months, it's also time for those who are registered for GST and report quarterly to gather their information together to submit their BAS.

Only a few weeks now till the end of the 2020 financial year so a quick reminder for everyone to make sure they are keeping all their documentation for anything they may wish to claim off their taxable income for the current year.

Businesses claiming "JobKeeper" are also being urged to make sure they have the correct evidence to confirm eligibility as the ATO will now be reviewing compliance after it has been rolled out.

The extension deadlines for lodgement of FY2019 tax returns (only through a tax agent now) are only weeks away as well, to avoid potential penalty contact your tax agent to lodge your returns for you.

The final date to submit your FY2019 tax return through your tax agent is May 15. However, due to the current events, the ATO have announced a deferral may be available. To find out if you are eligible, contact your tax agent.

If you have a business and are earning reduced income during this economic downturn then there may be some financial stimulus available from government. If you are unsure then talk to your accountant to confirm what assistance might be available.

It's now time for businesses to be sorting out their Q3 BAS and employee withholding and we should also remind both businesses and individuals that the deadline for lodging your FY2019 tax returns through a tax agent is fast approaching.

Government incentives to combat the current economic downturn are changing weekly and sometimes daily. There are incentives available for employees and businesses to try to keep them trading through these tough times. There is information available online from the ATO and also the Treasury Department and if you are a business owner or employee, it is worth staying on top of the information to see what is applicable to you.

The end of the March quarter is upon us so for those who report their BAS it is time to start getting your books in order and gathering your information. There are government credits linked to the BAS for most small business now.

Firstly, a quick reminder for individuals and business that haven't lodged their 2019 tax returns, that you only have around 6 weeks now to lodge them through your tax agent.

It's now almost the end of the March quarter for those that submit their BAS quarterly. The government will be discounting your PAYG liability on your BAS to help you retain employees and assist your business' cash flows.

The government reaction to the current economic situation will see many businesses provided with taxation relief in a few ways. Most benefits will occur automatically, but your tax agent will be able to explain what all the changes are if you need help understanding them. It's the end of the March quarter in two weeks too, so if you are registered for GST, start getting your documentation together because some of the government stimulus for business will be linked to the PAYG payable on your BAS.

A reminder that the deadline for lodgement of your FY2019 tax returns is May the 15th. Your tax agent will be able to lodge these returns but don't leave it till the last minute.
