💳 Good news for small businesses! The ATO credit card ban has been delayed.

Following concerns raised by the business community, the Federal Government has stepped in to delay the ATO's planned ban on credit card payments.

Originally set to take effect from 1 December 2026, the change has now been pushed back to 1 July 2027.

For businesses that rely on credit cards to manage cash flow and meet tax obligations, this is welcome breathing room.

So, what does this mean for you?
✅ You can continue paying your ATO bills directly by credit card until 30 June 2027.
✅ You have more time to review your payment arrangements and plan ahead.
✅ The ATO will consult further with small businesses on alternative payment options.

While the delay is welcome news, the change hasn't been cancelled. Now is a good time to consider how your business will manage ATO payments beyond June 2027.

The Fair Work Ombudsman recovered more than $453 million for over 181,000 workers in 2025–26 - up 27% on the previous year.

It’s a strong reminder that payroll compliance isn’t something businesses can afford to set and forget.

Small errors in:
✅ Award classifications
✅ Pay rates
✅ Overtime
✅ Allowances
✅ Superannuation
✅ Payroll settings
can quickly become significant liabilities when they continue across multiple employees and pay periods.

Regular payroll reviews can help identify issues early - before a small mistake becomes a much bigger problem.

💳 Card surcharge changes start today

From today (1 October 2026), businesses can no longer add a surcharge when customers pay using eftpos, Mastercard or Visa debit, prepaid or credit cards.

While the surcharge is disappearing, the cost of accepting card payments hasn’t necessarily disappeared with it.

For businesses, now is a good time to:
✅ Check your payment terminals and systems
✅ Review your merchant fees
✅ Understand the impact on your margins
✅ Make sure your pricing still stacks up
